What type of voltage reducer do i need to use? So i am not loosing any amps and keeps my 6v blower motor from burning up but still keeps it blowing air like it should with the 6v system. i am putting a 1956 dodge 1/2 ton on a 85 ramcharger 4x4 frame and using the electrical system from that truck pic to follow from start to finsh when done. Thank for any help

You need a 12v to 6v transformer. They are out there. I'm not sure where.

Well, actually...DC doesn't transform like AC does.
Some choices are:
1. voltage reducer or big resistor
2. find a 12V fan that fits in the same spot.
I would begin by looking at the first Dodge that used 12volts.

why keep the old 6volt stuff?
cost or to look old?

trying to keep the inside 6 voltage and the engine 12?

A transformer will NOT work. You need to determine the amperage requirements for the blower motor. The simple way is a big resitor. The better way is with a regulator, but it will have to handle the current.

That. How much current does the motor pull?

I'm also with Andrew. Why not switch everything to 12v?

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

All you need would be a 6v regulator. There are a lot of 6v regulators used for things like older motorcycles and you just need to put it in line with or at the fan.

It doesn't matter if it's DC or AC volts as long as it doesn't exceed 6-volts and that's what a regulator does. We have bikes that run lights, cooling fans, turn signals, brake lights, etc, and have 6-volt bulbs and fans from a generator that povides 80+ AC volts but is regulated to 6 volts and there is no problem.

Do a search for a 6 volt motorcycle regulator (without a rectifier) and IMO that should work.

Here's a typical regulator as used on motorcycles:

Chad

If you do a little more searching you'll find prices up over $22 for what appears to be the same item, here's the cheapest I found so far..

I would but the whole system to up grade from roberts motors is around 300 to 400 dollars. And I have been looking for the 12v motor that i can't find. I bought a reducer but its only at half speed. Thanks all for your input i appreciate it . The last post sounds like the ticket to my problem im having

Yeah, that 14.95 item is a big resistor.

R.

BTW, most 12V cars use 5-6volt power in the dash.

About 15 years ago we had an Old Dodge truck in the shop.We used a 12/6 volt battery in it.It used 12 to start then went to 6 for gas gauge and blower. It even ran the 6 volt lights that the guy wanted.Rocky
