Hey all, just wondering who would you recommend to have a custom solid cam made for a 383?

Looking for someone I can give the engine/car specs and intentions to and have them pick the cam and built it.

Not looking for cam recommendations on this thread.

Thanks,

I spec my own based on what I have learned on my dyno and at the track. If you want to just make a call and order something Dave Hughes gave me the best grind for a recent shootout I wrote for Mopar Muscle .

All I will add on this subject is,...
A friend and I both had custom grinds done for two very different engines by one of the guys that usually gets put to the front of these posts. And they both came in with very close specs to a top cam companies catalog grinds, but with slight changes.
Both of us later switched to ancient technology MP cams and gained power, consistency ,and were much happier. This was when I decided to stop trusting outside" experts" and started studying what really works.
And no,I wont name names,as unlike several other people,I'm not out to hurt anybody's business to make a buck myself .
My advice would be to talk to someone you know you can trust.

Same here as Dwayne Porter speced the solid flat tappet in my 63's 440/493. I have always picked my own cams most of my life for the mild engines I have built and I feel I know cams and engines pretty good since I have been an auto tech all my life since 1973. But it dont matter how good a cam I think I can pick as guys like Dwayne are pro's who do it everyday for a living and there is no way I could spec as good a cam as him or the other pro's that do it all the time from all the combo's specs. Its like porting heads as I have done a fair amount on my iron heads over the years but Dwayne does it everday as a pro and flows the heads when done. So he knows what works and what dont. I always liked doing all my own work but there is just no way a guy like me or any general tech is going to know the nitty gritty the pro's do that do just that for a living everyday.
There are some real good people out there that can spec you a cam but I have only used Dwayne Porter and his work was top notch all the way and he is a nice guy to work with. Who ever you decide on let us know as I have Dwayne's info and I am sure others here have the other people's info we can give you. Good luck , Ron

Can't argue with any of the advice I see here. I run an Engle solid, and have been real happy with the customer service (I've called them a few times with questions) as well as the cam itself.

383's are easy to overcam and in that respect they're more like smallblocks, it's not only the proper lift/duration and seperation angle but also the phasing (particularly the intake closing ABDC).

You get the combo right and they

but if you overcam (or understall/undergear) them and they just about won't fall out of a tree.
