383's are easy to overcam and in that respect they're more like smallblocks, it's not only the proper lift/duration and seperation angle but also the phasing (particularly the intake closing ABDC). You get the combo right and they ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drive.gif) but if you overcam (or understall/undergear) them and they just about won't fall out of a tree.

been there, done that. you want to mess up a nice running 383? get a big hydraulic cam.
