I just bought a block and some other stuff from a circle track guy, and I’m not real impressed with what he did to the oiling system. he tapped the block at the oil filter area, and then ran it back into the OP sensor hole. (he was running a remote filter). it just seems sort of hokey to me, especially since he burned a couple of the journals on the crank. any help would be muchly appreciated, and thanks in advance for sharing your hard won knowledge with the rest of us.

It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.

Tapping the block at the oil fiter to run an external filter is very common. Running the oil to the oil pressure sensor hole next to the distributor sound pretty strange. This is an 1/8" fitting. I guess you could drill this out to something larger but how large with the distributor in the way. Not sure what is to be gained by feeding oil there vs going back in at the oil filer location. There are a couple turns the oil would have to make but they are through 9/16 passages. That passage at the OP hole is smaller.

Are you sure the oil is not sent to the front of the block next to the passenger side head?

How about some pics.

this is a stock block, fitted with 4 bolt billet caps, sleeved to 4.00" for the class, and sleeved lifter bores. no, the oil does not go to the front of the block. unfortunatly, the guy who built this died, and the guy i bought it off of bought it from the builders son, so there is no way to pick the builders brain as to what he was trying to accomplish. the oil filter return (pipe nipple) is now where this guy had the oil pressure line...very odd.
