No, I didn't do a search. Sorry. But I just need some advice on replacing my old headers on my 440. They were bent when my daughter accidentally slammed into the wimpy aluminum garage door(my Super Bee was parked on the other side of the door) and the impact shoved the exhaust system forward and down a bit. The right header now rubs on the center link/idler arm and it sounds like there's a leak somewhere, IDK where yet. Anywho, I want to put a decent pair of new headers in but am clueles as to who makes a good, relatively affordable header. The headers I have now I think were more for racing and have 2" primaries to a 4" collector. I was thinking of downsizing a little to 1 3/4' primaries to a 3" collector. I just cruise in my Bee. No racing. Any thoughts? Oh, I have a Holley 750, Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake and Stealth aluminum heads...and 3" exhaust into Magnaflows.

don dulmage (old guy on the net who knows mopars)said 440s are not very sensative to headers.

my buddy had a set of flowtecks and there was a plug that was litteraly behind a tube and wouldent go in or come out without removing the headers-he eventually got some wierd plug to fix them.

summits for the money are great.

these are Summits and they fit and work fine. Good enough for 11.30's. Upgrading to 2". Mild 440's don't need big tubes but I have seen articals that say you can pick up about 40HP form 1 3/4" to 2"...but that's not for you.

I recommend Heddman Shortys. Very good fit, plenty of room to get to the plugs and other things and we even dropped the engine in with them installed. Love 'em

They don't put out as much peak HP as long tubes, but especially for a street car, you won't notice a difference and the ease of maintenance is priceless.

bang for the buck, hedman elites....don't go under the steering linkage, thick flanges and tubes, ceramic coated, and half the price of TTI's

I'd look at maybe an 1 7/8 tube header , how big is your cam ?

These are Hedman headers you see here on my old 440. They are 1-3/4 tubes with 3 inch collectors. Had them on my old eng for about 5 years. They are not the best but they worked fine for me. And they dont cost to much. Car ran abest made Good luck , Ron

For a street cruiser, I couldn't agree more. Mine have been trouble-free for at least 5 years.

Somebody's got to say it...........

look into the Hooker Comp's, they're 1&7/8'ths inch and reasonably priced (about $230 thru Summit). P/n 5903, I think.

What you really have to look at is the examples shown and if the car has power steering that is where the fit problem comes in in the engine compartment. Many times there are also problems at the floor pan with the collector and where the hook to the exhaust system. Starters are a problem too but a mini starter corrects that.

I have used both the summit, and the hedman shorties, and they both worked well, depending on what you want from it. Those would bemy choices.

Hedman elites worked out very well for my friend. Problem is, they don't make them for all the vehicles.

I have read elsewhere that the header pipe diameter should match the diameter of the exhaust valve. 1.81 valve, 1.875 (1 7/8") header.
I run TTI 2" pipes, but I'm almost at 500 C.I.
The 5903 headers are cheap and worth it. They hit the left torsion bar and the collectors point straight back. My TTIs clear everything and the collectors point toward the clearance humps in the t-bar crossmember. If you can live with some compromises, the cheaper pipes are one way to go.

I have a set of Doug Thorleys THY-152-c that I had to repaint they are 1 3/4 primaries 3" collectors. Work with Iron or Edelbrock heads had them sense 2006 on my 440 Barracuda. I am switching motors to a 500CID and just bought TTI's 2" collectors and 3.5 Primary. If you are running a mild a 440 the 1 3/4 do nicely. Not sure where you are at, but I am in Northern MD and was planning on selling mine at some point soon.
