i am looking at putting a cnc program in place to mod the truck cover because it puts the alteranor and a/c compressor in a bad spot for the cars. i think the truck timing cover is probably more available but i don't know that for a fact.

Anything that lets you run a mechanical fan with an A body radiator is a win for those doing this conversion.

This was an excellent read. I agree on the statement of a lot of 60's and 70's engines for sale. The coil packs tunability factor as well as modern data aquisition will make the tunes dead-on. Steff, thanks for trusting out Gen3 Hemi Stage 2 coil packs. Muscle Motors are putting them on most of their builds.

With my Family and I moving from Michigan to South Carolina last August, I wasn't able to get out. Too much stuff going on. But, I did drive it on the street a bit.. lots of fun! Tracks open soon down here, so I'm getting excited to finally hit the track.

I am very impressed with this build. Is there a particular reason you built a g4 block?

Is it stronger than a 5.7 or 6.1?

Thanks

No specific reason. I originally had a 5.7 block to build but then stumbled into a 6.4 block and went with it.

This amazes me to get that kind of power out of 400 cubic inches at only 7000 rpm and using 93 octane, but I have to ask, what would it cost for the average working stiff to reproduce a similar engine?

Thanks for the info. I have been told that a 6.4 was a much stronger block than the 6.1 or 5.7. I have also read conflicting reports on which block is the thickest, and has the best main webs.

Can you shed some light on the subject?

Thanks!

The info I'm getting is that the HellCat used the same 6.4 production block Matt

Yep...just a de-stroked 6.4 with forged internals.

It's been awhile since I looked at a 5.7, 6.1 vs. 6.4. I will look at them again tonite and compare the differences.

Steff, without having to read all the pages, what ever happend to this motor? Did you ever get it down the track? I am interested because my next project may be a turbo Gen III Hemi to replace my Magnum motor.

I've been driving the wheels off of it. Been too the track a few times with issues that ended the days early. Finally got out and made some passes. Left/ran like a turd. OK, Converter's tight. I removed the converter to get loosened up and noticed the fluid was contaminated with clutch material. I had the converter loosened up and in the mean time, tore in the trans....(Turbo 400) Found the Forward Drum Clutches & Plates were smoked and the Forward Drum had a groove wore into it by one of the teflon Stator Rings, where the drum seals to the Stator on the Front Pump. The Forward Drum was a nice aftermarket Aluminum piece and is now junk. The weird thing is, it never acted like the trans was hurt, on the street.

Going to put the trans back together this weekend and try to get out the next weekend.
