Hi all,

want to have my 67 HP 440 factory single point dizzy with a Pertronix conversion setup on a distributor machine. I've found a few listings in Hemmings. Does anyone know of any shops that specialize in the mopar dizzys?

Many thanks,

Moparmoondog

I used FBO for my recurve last year: satisified with the outcome.

I would suggest doing it yourself. Have your welder weld up maybe a third of the slots on the outer edge. find the initial your particular engine wants with the "vacuum gauge method". Subtract your initial from 36 to get the amount of mechanical (slot length) advance you need keeping in mind dist adv times 2 is crank advance & there's a chart in the archives but reportedly it's not dead on accurate so go a bit less & creep up on it so you dont have to make a return trip to the welder. With a rattail file elongate the slots till you get 36 total (checked with vac adv capped if you're using it). Then play with springs till you reach a point where you are just under the pinging point at WOT on your hottest/dryest day up thru the gears starting with the OE light spring and a MP or mr gasket light spring combo. Lastly plug in the vacuum advance & want to stay just under the pinging point at a steady interstate cruise (high vacuum) at an RPM at or above the RPM where the slots are maxed out & adj that by soldering strips of feeler gauge of the right thickness on either side of the notch in the arm to limit its' travel into the can, then want to stay just under the pinging point in everyday varying vacuum level driving & correct that by adjust the rate of the slope, CCW with a 3/32" allen wrench slows the rate. No way a shop can get your dizzy dead on without it in the eng & driving it but they might come fairly close & You'll get good at getting the center clip out & the rest is how much time do you want to put into it.
