I dont use a kit.. I just get the remote filter housing
and drill and tap the one port on the block... but if
you dont want to drill and tap you can buy a screw on
unit to hook the lines to.... remember to always have
the inlet line going to the filter on the OUTSIDE
of the filter(it has more surface area)
Also I blend the edges in on the remote so it flows
better

I don't really want to tap the block since the motor is all done. I'm putting a mid plate in my Dart and would like the clearance. With the oil filter on the 90* adapter the midplate is in the middle of the filter. I notched the plate but I don't know that I could get the filter off when the headers are on. And a remote would keep me from dumping oil on the headers to.

The Canton adapter is a nice piece if it fits, check header clearance if your headers move in tight to the block. If you buy the canton adapter remeber to buy the service kit(its only 6 bucks I think)comes with new seals.

I drilled and tapped the block on my 416 in my Rampage
and put the filter up towards the front(in front of
the right front tire) so it was easy to get at... I
had to tap the block to clear my headers and inner fender
(here is a pic on the stand)

I have the whole shebang hanging on my garage wall , so if you haven't started buying parts yet , I could probably save you a ton of $$$.
I am pretty sure the 90 degree adapter is still on it too....I tapped the block on my new deal so I don't need any of it.
Drop me a line of you want pics.

Canton makes the block plates, remote filter adaptors and the remote filter mount.

MrP, why did you use the centre oil outlet?
Would it be better to eliminate the two 90 deg turns by using the other one?

BTW I'm a cheap SOB, so could ordinary pipe fitting be used instead of the aluminum ones? Thx Matt

I just threw that on so I could prime the system..
I took it off a few minutes later after the pic...
the real set up(in car set up) comes straight out
of the block with AN then it goes forward inside the
wheel well area to the remote filter in front of the
tire and mounted on the chassis tube

Hey Mr. P and Tubtar, was hoping to get your guys input seeing you both have done this before.

If I am understanding correctly and by the pic that Mr. P posted, you are running without a plate on the block and instead running a line out of the center fitting and then drilling and tapping the hole to the left of the center that usually has a plug for another line? What size are you drilling and tapping to, and what size fittings need to be used for this setup? This would be a great way for me to save some money on the canton adapter since I am doing a remote filter and cooler for my new motor.

If you guys have any more detailed pics of how you did it, that would be great too!

Thanks!

Which holes would I be using and tapping to size, and which ones would be blocked?

I'm doing the same thing. I just bought the Canton Racing pieces should be here in a couple days. I wasn't sure if I wanted to drill the block so that's why I went with the adapter. I like the billet versus the cast items that are available.

Plug the large center hole and then drill and tap return hole. The hole in the block is at a slight angle so you have to be careful when you drill and tap it. The biggest that you can tap those holes is 3/8 NPT so then you have to use some special adapters to get up to a #12 AN line. You can get the adapters from BLP. CV products should also have them.

Hey Andy,

Thanks for the info! Would a regular plug with o-ring be sufficient for the large center hole that needs plugging?

Also, the adapters to go from 3/8NPT to say -10 or -12, are they special adapters for oil? Or can you use any specialty AN fiting in the right sizes?

The centre holes is 3/4" UNF, I have seen guys just use a bolt with a copper washer and some thread sealer.

I have a question- does it matter whether I use the smaller passage or the larger center passage for the outlet from the block to the filter? the smaller passage is usually plugged, so is there a benefit to leaving that plugged and using the larger hole in the center instead?
