I chose to use a diesel 518 non-lockup because I had one handy. But you can also use the lockup 518 as well.

To control the OD and lockup it uses a set of pressure switches that T into the governor port on the transmission. And then a vacuum switch that allows the transmission to drop out of OD or lockup when the need arises.

Much better than just wiring into toggle switches and flipping on and off all the time.

I had to add a gas motor governor. I also added a nice valve body kit and used a quality rebuild kit.

You can also use a V10 trans and it will already have the correct governor.

I liked the idea of using the diesel/V10 518 since they are built to handle lots of torque I'm confident the power the 440 will put to it won't be an issue if I decide to have some playtime.

Its also got a diesel D70 rear and a "new" military surplus D44HD up front.
And I had custom rear driveshaft with 1410 u-joints made.

They have their own issues including the overdrive ratio is pretty limited.

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)
