As I was told - somwhere at the end of the 1970 run the swap happened.

My original shaker hood has the 5/16 bolts and my production date was 6/13/1970...

Got me a NEW Project
1970 GTX 440+6, 4 spd, 4.10 Dana and N96 FE5 (top/bottom) and black bucket interior.
Original transmission and Dana - Engine is a service replacement block.

Body has all stamped #s + VIN/TRIM tag and door sticker. Been hunting like all hell to find the Build Sheet.

garage find, only had 41,850 miles on ODO.

You need to look and see if your hood has crumple zones or not. It should not have them so that means 5/16 bolts.

My N96 Challenger is even later a at SPD of 723 and it takes 5/16 bolts

My R/T SE was also a 7/23 SPD, came with the std R/T rally hood & had 5/16" bolts...

great answers- who has crumple zones on their hoods-i thought when the challenger shaker hoods were re released they put the crumple zones in. does this mean there were four different challenger shaker hoods for 70 and 71?
all the best
frank.

I always like to think our cars went down the production line at the same time since they are both FK5

Frank,

There are at least four:

1970 non crumple zone 5/16 bolt holes
1970 crumple zone 5/16 bolt holes (cars after 4/15/70)
1971 crumple zone 3/8 bolt holes
???? crumple zone 3/8 bolt holes, but is flat in the front - does not take the Dodge Triangle - probably over the counter.
