Hi guys, my name is Jim and I am new to the challenger world. I have always been a GM guy. this is my first rebuild on a mopar muscle car. I have a question about the codes and how rare/odd the options are. The fender tag has the following codes e55 d21 jh23 hob fy4 h6x9 000 703 129849 v1x a66 c16 c55 j45 j54 m21 n41 n42 r22 r31 v9x yo5 26 en1. There is also a small diamond shaped tag next to it. I was wondering if this car is rare enough to put it all back original or would it hurt the value to change the color to something more appealing? Thanks for your help.
Jim

Welcome Jim, Sounds like a nice car, I personally would keep it stock and restore it back to original but I always tell people to do what makes you a happy. Here is the fender tag decoder for the basics

http://www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoder.php

If you got any questions feel free to ask. I just finished mine last April now im working on a 66 Charger.

I once read on here some good advice that was given to a converted "GM" guy.

Think back to the most expensive restoration you ever did on a general motors car.
Now times that amount by 3 for most Mopars.
But lucky for you it is times 4 for cudas or challengers!

Sounds like you have a sweet ride there, I love my 340 challenger. Good luck with it. This is the place for about any question you may have.

There was a post about your new car in the last couple weeks, but it must have been in the eBay/wiw forum & is no where to be found.

I believe the general consensus was a "light gold metallic" 340 Challenger with black accents would be a RARE sight & would look great!!

Here's an A66 thread: happy readin'

Thanks guys, the info was posted before by a friend of mine, as I was not a member yet . I was talking to him about changing the color and he said he wanted to check on the rarity of the color combo etc. I never knew so much info was put on a fender tag. With GM stuff it is pretty slim. Thanks for the help and I will keep you updated as it moves along the restoration process. Thanks again,
Jim

Welcome Jim! Whatever you do, take a million pictures of absolutely everything on the car. Does it have original paint, or if it was repainted is it painted in the same color as it was originally? Try to use as many original parts as you can. Did you find a broadcast sheet in the car? If you think that fender tag had a lot of information, well, the sheet has a lot more! That is a rare color for a Challenger, so for whatever my two cents are worth, I would make sure that you keep the car that color.... and a four speed to boot. Great car and a late build date.

I have been taking pics, but the car was partially torn down when I got it. I am putting quarters, trunk extensions, and a rt inner fender. Have not found a build sheet yet, and still looking The rest is not too bad, will need interior and some Chrome, then paint. Still debating on the vinyl top. It was removed long ago and the holes filled. This is a great place for info and I want to tell you all thanks.
Jim

Jim,

That's a great car in a great color - don't under estimate that color. Plus you have some really good options.

Which GM car(s) did you own?

1,295 Challenger hardtops were built in FY4, which is 3.4%. This is for US cars and not total production.

That gold Road Runner is one of the most I've seen.

Congrats, sounds like a nicely optioned car/colored car. My Challenger is also an A66 car originally but was missing the original 340 engine & trans when I bought it so it is going the Drag Radial, true 10.5 route & becoming more of a drag car.

Corvettes, and camaros, sold my 69 rs last fall. Did a full restoration on that one. Kept a 63 Corvette conv. Had lots over the years, but . alway s had a soft spot ever since for challenger/cudas. I had bought a 70 challenger back in 86-87, plum crazy, 440,727 slapstick, ralley hood and wheels. Had the car for 3 days and sold it before I even got it home regretted that ever since. Was going to paint this one plum crazy like that one.but now I am rethinking that.
Jim.

WAY too many FC7 E-Body's out there, seems everyone that bought one in any other color repainted to purple. I pass right by purple or black challengers to green and gold one's!

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

I thought about lime green for awhile. As soon as I figure out how, I will post a pic of the car when I got it. Jim

It is your car paint as you wish, but I think it's a great original color and well optioned. I myself would restore it with original colors and options, as it's nice to have or see something different. Build a nice little stroker for it and have fun. Hopefully I will get mine done someday. (to many projects) My early A66 came with some odd things and will go back together the same way even though alot of people here say there not correct and did not come that way. Flat hood with hood pins, black grille, wheel mouldings, front and rear torque boxes, just because it should not have, doesn't mean it didn't. Like said in prior post take lots of notes and pictures. This is a good place and good people to get info from. Have fun.
