Another update. Over the weekend I replaced the headlight adjusters on the drivers side fender, put a dipstick and tube in, changed plugs, finished up the exhaust, installed the turn signal lever that didn't get done when I moved the car before, removed the power steering for some work to the pump and a new hose install, and drove it! There were downsides. It still needs timed and the carb needs adjusted. Right now the pump shot, I think. The nose needs raised because turns to the left grab the wheel opening molding on the left fender. It makes a terrible noise. It needs rear springs because, well, they are 45 years old and the thing will look like a quad if I bring the front up. I need to gget a good ground on the tail lights. The turn signals don't work at all in the back. I need to put bulbs in the dash. But the worst part of the day, I had the fan hit the plastic cover on the washer pump wire and knock off the cover. On my last spin today, the car ran like it was on a rev limiter and once it cleared up, the ammeter was no longer charging. When I got home I popped the hood and the new wiring harness I bought last August was charred and the wrap melted. The washer pump wire blew over and shorted the blue field wire to the case of the alternator and fried the harness. So there is another $105 lesson to me. Tape up the wires not being used. It doesn't run as strong as I know it's capable of, but I'm driving it. That's a start. The hard part is over. Now it's time to get everything broken in and keep chipping away at the little stuff! I couldn't be happier! (Well, if I hadn't shorted the harness, I could be happier...)

That's cool! I would like to get mine straight and in primer at some point. Right now I just want to get it reliable and screaming...

Stay on it!! Driving these things is the most important part. Make it safe and reliable. The rest is not critical to enjoying the car.
Absolutely. Driving it threw gasoline mixed with nitroglycerin on my fire to get it going... I am collecting front end parts and have someone to rebuild the front end for me. I'll be doing the front and rear shocks/springs/bushings torsion bars, the power steering pump (I know, I know. That's how it came) and change out the 3.23's for 3.91's while adding a new sure grip and I'm done working on it . I'll be driving it!
How tall are your rear tires? The 3.91s in my '70 made long freeway drives rather unpleasant and pricey even running 275-60-15s. Something to keep in mind 'cause I know you want to drive the heck out of it. Too bad you're so far away you could roll it in here and we'd knock all that out in short order. We could even change out the steering box.
It had 275/60/15 E.T. Streets on it. I may go with 3.55's, but I have the 3.91's now. I think the 3.23 would be okay, but I think the sure grip is shot and I have to get in there, anyway. We'll see how it shakes out. I had a '70 Dart with 3.91's and a much shorter tire, and I didn't mind the rpm it turned at 70. But that was about 15 miles at the most... Not many hours to Woodward, Carlisle, etc.

my last road runner had 3.55s. 2756015 tire. I cruised I 70 at 70 no sweet going to Columbus. The one before that had 3.91s, with 235s IIRC, it was tached out at 60. OK local, but not on the highway. I have 3.23s in this one, and it's a good all around ratio.

Took it for a ride a bit ago. Needs some carb work. Nose raised. Turn signal switch. But I can power shift it into third... Important stuff. I really don't like the 3.23. I can also tell it needs some more tuning. It hooks hard between gears. I was kind of surprised it won't turn a tire, though. I'm pretty sure a 383 that went 11's should he able to turn the tires, drag radials or not.

gotta be the tuning. My 383 can turn my tires just about anytime. My rear has no tag(naturally) but it feels like 3.23s to me.
