I feel your pain. my car is still in the paint shop, and with our trip out west, no cash for the nats. as far as the tags, go Historical, even get some '69 plates. less then $40 and you're done as long as you have the car.

Keep up the good work. You can always trailer it to the nats...at least it will be there. I need to get my own butt in gear if I plan on taking the black bee. It's been out of the trailer only once since the nats last year.
Restoring a car to look "only" as good as the factory made it is like getting a boob job for your wife and having the doctor make them two different sizes to seem more natural

10:00 update. Clutch linkage is in and adjusted. Starter is in and tight. Found two brake leaks. One, I believe, is due to the crappy copper washers they use to seal the banjo bolt to the caliper. The other is a line. Should just need tightened. I'm 'adjusting' the u-joint straps right now, then I'll be done under the car for tonight. Yet to come: tighten water pump, install t-stat, install header gaskets and tighten, find tdc and index the distributor, clean paint off the plugs and reinstall, run the wires, and start the wiring replacement. I'm still feeling good, so I'll be at it for while...

I've made continuous headway on the car, but it seems like for some reason the list keeps growing. The issues at the moment are some bellhousing bolts that are too long. I can see air between the block and the bell, and they won't tighten anymore. I still have to tighten a line and a bolt to stop my tiny brake fluid leak. I don't think that I will make the Nats, but I'm still plugging away. I'll be on it until I leave Friday for the show. My boy helping. He's really looking forward to riding in it. Wires routed. I'll clean it up before too long. But they're on. Mounted the coil and the alternator and plumbed from the pump to the carb.

Yes. Original bell. 11" flywheel. Original style pressure plate. The bolts have a good 1/4" between the head and the bell. They ain't moving.

It looks like you plan on running the heater core with those nice new heater hose nipples in the water pump housing. You are brave to test that heater core, I would just bypass it for now if I were you. It is August and all, you shouldnt need it

I got the wiring almost completed today. Replaced the motor mount I broke. Wired the starter. Added a bolt I was missing to the bellhousing and pulled one that was too long out to measure. I accomplished a lot today. I also scored an exhaust system for $50. I had it bent for a car I wrecked long ago. It was old enough the glasspacks burnt out of it. But new enough the guy who bought the car heated the connections and it came apart. It's 2&1/4" and had glasspacks on it, but it sounded pretty good behind a 383 that had an almost identical cam in it. Progress. I might make it yet.
