For my anal restoration 65 Fury 2 door cop car, should I have the seat frames and springs powder coated or painted? Cost is not the issue, longevity is key. Both should look fine.

Paint or Powder Coat
single choice

I think powder coating seat frames is overkill; nothing wrong with doing it but it isn't necessary. If they are cleaned up and painted, they should never rust again unless you plan on driving the car into a lake. To me this is the same as worrying about vinyl roofs causing rust and using bedliner on the underside; just not necessary for the useage that 99% of us have.

Another concern I would have is that I have good luck powder coating thicker metal like K frames, axle housings etc. I've never had good luck powdercoating metal that flexes or moves as it tends to flake off. Not sure if there is a flex agent available for powdercoating or not.

I agree it isn't necessary & it is overkill, mine hasn't had any issues with flexing causing it to flake, & the reason I personally did it was I'd done a job for a guy that does powder coating for a living, in return he was gonna powder coat parts for me... I got allot of stuff done..

I agree with paint. Even with most of the rusty cars you see, the seat frames that are not exposed are still in great shape and retain the crappy paint from the factory. The only points where you see issues are at the contact points, and as Dave eluded to I'm sure your carpet is not getting wet anytime soon. If you have access to powder coating for minimal than great, but otherwise I would paint. I did spray mine with a gun, but just out of convienience. Good spray bomb would probably be better than what they got originally. I think they were dipped.

Had mine powder coated. Loved the results, loved the price and I didn't have to do it!

Here's a left field suggestion.......how about plating them!
Absolutely no issues with flexing or chipping, it is not exactly a corrosive environment inside the vehicle so rust should not be a problem, and also it is usually cheap!
I had my seat tracks plated black zinc (in their case mainly because I felt it was a better solution than paint)and they look great.

Just another option......

Well, whether to paint or powder coat is the least of my issues now. See my post on the coil springs:

And after working on this beast for approximately 17 years I think I am getting less anal and just want to get it done.........

Things take me to long to do since i go all out and waste time on things that do not matter.
Ease of just dropping them off and picking up is a plus on the Powder Coating deal.
Think about the time I wanted that could have been used doing other more important things and the car would be done now!I had my frames done at Redi-Strip since they were one street over from the shop I worked at. So was rust free when they came back and easy. So figured that paint would last well beyond my years. Even rusty cars have good seat frames i looked at
Then PPG DP-40 epoxied them. shot with black base and clear. On the frames I also did not have the burlap but did have some new synthetic horse hair paid at work for free.
So I Hog Ringed it on the fresh painted frames.
Fixed the foam with new foam. With 3-M Contact glue sprayed left over from Vinyl top installs.
Then an shaped with electric knife. Added some Cotton Roll like used on rear seats backs {from some clean seat backs}
And then put the covers on.

Sorry for bad pics
