http://www.hangar18fabrication.com/blowthru.htmlLots of guys using this mod for blow through. This is only for gas though, no e85. I wanted to do my own carb too, but i figured by the time I spent screwing around getting it right, dyno/test and tune money, I'd be further ahead just buying one. I got mine from Eric at Horsepower Innovations. Carb has been awesome, and some of the best tech/customer service I've ever received on any part in my life. Worth every penny spent being able to start the car up for the first time, and instantly going out to enjoy it. http://www.horsepowerinnovations.com/concrete/

I'd love to do efi but the problem is finding a suitable controller.
I'm working on a budget system right now for my 440, 411 LS1 computer with coil on plug ignition on a BB mopar. I pd $33 for the PCM at the local pick-a-part. I hope to have a full writeup on it on moparts before spring fling in a few months.
My brothers shop just built a 1100 hp blown ls gto on E85 using a stock LS computer...it's amazing what these PCM's are capable of.

What vehicle is the pcm out of? The problem around here is there isn't many pick a parts. I have plenty of salvage yards and I haven't seen a brain box cheaper than $100 lately. They were going $50 5 years ago. The next problem I saw was finding a way to program the said brain box without spending a fortune. Check prices on EFI Live and you will catch my drift. I just don't see it being practical. I'd have to do multiple vehicles to recoup the cost.

What did you do for the crank trigger? Seems like that would be the toughest part. Then what are you tuning with?

It wouldn't be the most accurate but the distributor pickup could be used for trigger. A more expensive option would be an MSD crank trigger setup.

You can't use a distributor. The EFI needs to know where #1 is.
Regular MSD crank trigger doesn't work either because the EFI watches for 28 (can't remember the GM reluctor wheel count?) pulses per rev.
Oh so the real problem is the cam sensor and not the crank sensor.

You can get the 411 PCM out of any 1998 to 2002 GM V8 or V6 Truck or F-body, etc.
As far as tuning goes....any LS1 tuner show can do it for you, that's what every Chevy guy does. LS1 tuners are everywhere.....
OR...buy HPtuners software for $499.00 or even cheaper used (I've seen the software for $350 used). I can afford the software when the PCM only cost $33. I bought another PCM on ebay for $25+shipping=like $40 or so total.

Ati and innovators west (i believe) can make you a balancer with all that built in. And you use the distributor for that cam sync but cutting off 7 reluctors and using the one left to dictate #1

I mounted a stock LS1 crank reluctor on a stock crank pulley and used a AndyF crank sensor bracket to mount the sensor on.
For a cam sensor...I took a gutted distributor and mounted a 1X sensor and reluctor in it from a Vortec pickup motor from the junkyard...cost me about $35 at the pick-a-part. I should start another post will all this stuff in it with pics, etc. I took a bunch while doing it....I was just planning on waiting until it was running so I could be the first to do it....lol.

Exactly. But new motors don't use cam sensors anymore because of variable cam timing, so they use the crank with a reluctor wheel to know where #1 is. I was just wondering how to do this on a GM computer with an old mopar crank.
BTW... sorry totally off track to the original post... lol
All the LS motors except for the very newest ones still used a cam sensor.

Awesome!!!! That will be a priceless thread. I plant on going turbo. So EFI would be double cool. Will look forward to your post!

carb isn't an issue. MSD had a boost delay/retard box you can add on. It lets you drop from .5* to 4* per lb of boost. The carb and the delay box are a much easier instal than a EFI set-up and WAY cheaper.
easier yes...but if you buy a setup forced induction carb, not that much cheaper than my setup once you figure in the ignition and tunability that comes built in the LS1 ignition/Efi.

MSD has a digital ignition box (#6530) that has a map sensor. you can program all your timing maps from a laptop and put in set amounts or boost per timing tables

Using the LSx coils and 24x reluctor setup would allow for use of the several good systems on the market, in addition to the GM PCM. Mega Squirt is very popular in the turbo LSX world. For carb use, I would imagine that you could use the stand alone plug and play type boxes like the MSD 6010/6LS and the Mallory Firestorm. Neat stuff. Excited to see some developments as they happen.
