Hey guys,

Quick question... I have a 2003 Ram 2500 diesl... crew cab..

Went away for the weekend and had some wierd things happening... started while driving to the cottage, my brother, driving behind me noticed that my tail lights were going on and off. Took awhile to figure out that the tail lights were going on and off everytime I put the high beams on! High beams on = tail lights off! When I got to the cottage and shut the truck off all the park lights and roof clearence lights stayed on! Head light switch was off...key was out...lights stayed on... I ended up disconnecting the batteries for the weekend.

Today when it was time to go, I hooked up the batteries...
(- 30degrees) not pluged in... fired it up.. and drive home. No issues now...

Anybody ever had anything wierd happen like this before?

I was thinking head light switch but then I remembered that in our old stuff...(Muscle cars) even the tail lights go throu the signal switch in the steering column so now Im wondering... maybe something with the light timer? Computer?

Any ideas!

Thanks,

I think your having problems with your TIPM (totally integrated power module).
But first I would check the power and grounds. I it still acting up get the DTCs read. If possible have them check the outputs with the scan tool (DRB lll). That should get you in the right direction.

Dodge trucks didn't get a TIPM until 06 model year. The 03 will have an FCM (front control module) and an IPM (Integrated power module) to control the lighting. The first thing I would do is disconnect all of the connectors one by one from the bottom if the IPM (fusebox) and check for corroded or pushed out terminals. They are prone to corrode and cause issues. Get some dielctric grease and spread over the terminals before plugging them back in. You should also unscrew the FCM from the side of the IPM and check the connections there also.

Your right about the ipm/fcm. In 06 the TIPM is basically the same other than its all ( integrated) together.
