here is the best thing i ever learned with a 67-72 points style car or a 73-93 doge truck.
I use a reman points dist from autozone for around 30 bux,I then use a pertronix ignitor I points conversion along with the pertronix chrome 40,000 volt coil.
i install per directions, red wire with keyed hot wire on + side of coil, black wire(green tach wire if you have it) to - side of coil.
put a jumper in to by-pass BR
I have never fooled with it again in 17 yrs.
i do the same thing on my mid 80s trucks and just got a conversion for the mallory duel points dist I have for the 440 truck.
on the mid 80s truck i remove the stock elect. ign stuff/ecu/elect dist..ect.
just drop in the points dist with conversion and 'Ride Daddy Ride'

nothing fancy and good up to 15,000 rpm, fast starts, hot spark
another good upgrade for the 67 is a modern solid state voltage regulator they seel now days to replace the old points style regulator.
going to the solid state electronic flashers for blinkers and emerg flasher helps a lot also.

when you went to the elect. dist with ecu did you change out the points style coil for a elect. style coil??
that may be the weak fire on start ups.
