Hoping it's a simple fix on the SM-BLK 408....#1 Cylinder Exhaust roller is picking up some moisture is my guess....I know the header bolt hits into the water and I sealed it.....does the rocker shaft bolt also hit water...????

It seems to be very minor leakage and no discoloration in either the oil or radiator...????

Engine has only had run time on the stand....

Thanks in advance

Rickster

Is this rocker directly under the evac breather? Iv'e seen that from condensation directly over the evac breather, If the breather has moisture could be there.

The breather is above #3 intake and exhaust with no indication of moisture....that was acually my first thought

These are J-Heads that have had some extensive work & milling as well...????

Now I'm wondering if when they did the bowl-work that maybe it got into the water jacket on that exhaust port...????

If they broke through on the port and any water went
back into the engine all of the rockers would have
the same color oil... how much run time has it had
and at what temp... lets see the inside of the VC
EDIT
The rocker hold down bolts dont go into the water

My thoughts as well Mike on knicking the port....the engine has been run numerous time on the stand and brought well up to temp.....the valve cover does have a baffle underneath the breather....but I never took into consideration the width of the baffle...???? The motor does tilt to the rear....I set it up on the run-in stand as it would sit in the engine compartment as close as possible...????

Well if the baffle is leaning towards the front it
can run the condensation off that direction(it may
not be level with the engine)

Also are you running E-vacs with a open breather...
that tends to draw in more air (with moisture) and
dumps the moisture on the baffle

Just a PVC to the Intake on the odd bank....the baffle is definately running down hill away from #1

I thinks its still a condensation problem but I
dont understand why its on just the #1 rockers..
by the way what is that oil.. looks like it was run
through a bucket of rust... I would pull that rocker
shaft just to verify it isnt some weird thing like
the hold down bolt but in the stock heads the pedestal
and the bolt are well above the water... if you were
to break off the pedestal the bolt doesnt even go
to the bottom of the pedestal... use one of those
radiator pressure testers and pump up your radiator
with that shaft off

Maybe its just the way the picture looks but it sure looks like there is Green (antifreeze) water next to the head bolt to the left of the rocker and also a drip on the valve spring to the right of the suspect rocker/valve.

Pull the shaft to check for water rust crud still in the end.

Rick if you don't find anything after you get everything cleaned up and put back together bring it up to temperature and dump in a can of K&W block sealers. Should be able to get it at your local auto parts or they can order it in for you. That stuff works great and if I remember right it even has a water pump lube in it.

The oil is clean (VR1 10w30).....just looks wierd in the pic....the rust is just on the #1 Exhaust Rocker....no pitting on any of the parts....wipes right off....can't be a huge problem due to no contamination in either the oil or radiator....but would like to get to the btm of this...???? I will pull the rocker shaft and see if anything looks unusual

Just because the parts are new doesnt mean that there couldnt be rust in the rocker shaft. coolant left over from teh grind process could be the culprate (rusting the inside of the shaft) Good place to look none the less.

In just one rocker.....I really don't see how, plus I personally inspected all the ne components that went into this build.
