Thinking of building a stroker 360. Cast cranks worth it on a street car with limited traçk time? Scat or Eagle? Naturally, crank-rods-pistons will be bought together. Any input appreciated. I already have aluminum heads, TTI's, MSD ignition & induction set- up. Thanks

SCAT is good Eagle is terrible. friend had one with low compression stock magnum heads cam exhaust, just wanted a little more TQ and it broke in short order in the overlap area near the front journal, they grind a bunch of the metal out there so it can internally balance easier. The SCAT is a better alloy and much beefier in that area, machining is much more accurate also.

From what I can see you have most of it already. Might as well spring for a forged crank. You know it's the right thing to do. Hmm aluminum heads, some compression, next thing you want to throw some NOS at it and wham! it's gone. Just do it once and be done with it.
That's what I was hinting at. How many of our members over the years have snapped aftermarket CAST cranks. Get a good forged crank, internally balance it, install a set of after market H beem rods and the shortblock is ready for years of fun. You can always upgrade the heads as you have lots of growing room.
I think if you do a search the ones that have "snapped" all have been Eagle cast cranks..have not seen one report of a Scat cast crank snapping...
I said my piece. Its his engine so he can pick his parts as he wishes. Good-luck with your build.
Same thought here. Not saying its going to happen no matter what but plan for upgrading etc. I've had two engines built that I wish I'd just have done right the first time. No nothing broke but they weren't what I wanted and in the end the "shortcuts" I took in the shortblock wouldn't have survived what I plan to do with the 380 I bought. I think it's just trying to say hey learn from my mistakes.

I have the pieces of a Scat cast/MP cast 4" crank to prove they can be broken. It did last about 8yrs and 200-300 passes per year running mid 10's. Another that I built in 2003 is running around Texas and doing well. I don't have an issue with them for mild builds but a forged crank is always a good upgrade and if you want an internal balance build would be the better option. The Eagle cast crank is not even close and I wouldn't touch one,I did for a minute one time and quickly stuffed it back in the box to return it.

I had a similar experience with an Eagle cast crank. Have used Mopar cast stroker cranks with good results. Forged cranks are nice and they can break too.
