it's more for reliability than anything else. the goal is to have the output shaft of your tranny parallel with your pinion when the car is under acceleration. what that means, is your pinion angle (which is the difference between the two) will vary depending on what kind of suspension you have. four link and ladder bar can be near zero. leaf springs (without caltracs or similar modifications) will need between 5 and 8° of negative angle (pinion nose down IN RELATION TO THE TRANS OUTPUT SHAFT). there. i said it. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GROUND, OR ANGLE OF THE DRIVESHAFT IN RELATION TO IT! sorry for yelling. move along.
for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I found if you read the first paragraph on this it tells you what you want to do. Course the reason for more pinion angle on leaf springs vs ladder bar is the suspension moves more. Ron http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/axle/8.html

This is one you should google search for a little moparts history. Have fun. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif) It has been beat to death revived, and beat to death again.
