What does it take to get a 275-60-15 on a 64 valiant?

Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

Work, probally move the springs in and reshape the fender lips, better yet stretch the wheelwells 4 or 5 inches so you can run a 315x60x15

Seems like a Dart to me, and with a modified wheel opening. But basically you have to move the springs to the framerails and minitube it. With the sotck wheelwells and spring position, 245 wide is about max.

A few years ago, I was able to get a 245/60/15 street tire on a '65 Valiant with no modifications to the wheel wells or spring location. I put new leaf springs in though and had them arched 2" over stock to get clearance. They settled some and looked OK. I used a 15 x 8 wheel with 4.875" backspace. No rubbing at all.

You could possibly get it done with the offset spring hanger but a mini tub would probably be best. One issue you might run into though is the height of the tire. The outside top edge can rub the inside wheel well above where the lip is. You can push it out a little with a bottle jack or a BFH if needed.

There are a few early Valiant NHRA stockers running 255/60/15 drag radials with everything in the stock locations. Tight but it fits.

My 65 barracuda has 275's on it and all I had to do was move the springs under the rail and push the floorpan/trunk/wheel tub ext over to be flush with the frame rail.I use a 15x7 wheel with a 4-3/4 neg offset.I actually have plenty of clearance.

Use the 3/4 inch inboard spring relocation kit, roll the fender lip; may need to put a 1/2 inch shim between the front spring hanger and the body, 8 inch wide wheels with 5 1/2 inch back space.

Got them on my 65 Back-a-ruda.

Never tried that exact tire.

The quarter panel pictured is of a 65 Dart. I have made that wheel opening. Recognize the body line. Valaint and Barracuda do not have the body line over the wheel for information. But, as far as fitting tires they are the same other than the lip sits a little further in on the dart.

I know a N50-15 will fit with an inboard spring kit and mini tubs with no cutting of the quarter and a 15X9 centerline with 7.25' back spacing. The 275/60/15 is the same as a L60. Less backspacing and should not have to minitub. But, the leafs need some moving. Sorry I just not 100% sure on what has to be done for that specific size. A G60 will fit with no work at all.

Yes, because I am building a 65 Val wagon and want to stuff some of them under it too

Do you really think that Valiant wagon will need them big tires to pull that trailer LOL

66 Barracuda with 295/50/15. Mini-tubbed, springs moved in and narrowed rear. No fender trimming required.

Although not an early valiant mine has 275/60's on it for the track but it is a pita to change a tire. I have to jack the car up as far as I can then drop it on to jack stands and lower the rearend as far as possible and I can just barely wiggle them out. My car is mini tubed and the springs are moved to the rail, 2" blocks, stock A body width axle. When I buy tires next time I'm going with 235/60's unless I get a good deal on used X275 tires like I did this time I run 205/75/14 white walls on the street just in case I have to change one on the side of the road I won't need stands and level ground.

Friend of mine runs 275 50 15 drag radials on a stock bodied 67 coronet with cop car wheels.

I cant think of worse cars for tire clearance than a 67 coronet.

The 275 50 15 is the same width as a 275 60 15 just lower. Might give you what your looking for.

I used to care but....... things have changed
