Fellas - Plan to paint my 68 Lemans convt and believe that's an excuse to purchase some new tools. Car is in pretty good shape, but needs some dents worked out, minor rust repair. Think I'm going to do a "scuff and shoot" over the existing paint. Anyway, in addition to the normal hand tools, I have a DA orbital sander, DeVilbiss HVLP "Finish Line" gun (1.3, 1.5, 1.8 tips), 80 gallon compressor, MIG welder (Miller 211), cutoff wheel, sheetmetal nibbler, die grinder, etc. Figure I need: Hammers and dollies - what about this set from Eastwood - http://www.eastwood.com/7-pc-body-and-fender-pro-set-fiberglass-handles.htmlAlso need some sanding blocks, right? How 'bout these - http://www.eastwood.com/7-pc-body-and-fender-pro-set-fiberglass-handles.htmlWhat about an air sander? http://www.eastwood.com/straight-line-air-sander.htmlAnd a palm sander? I have a pair of the metal stands that can be used to support bumpers, fenders, decklids, doors, etc while you are working on them. Suppose I'll need a pile of sandpaper as well as masking tape and paper. What did I miss? Recommendations on the above list? Thanks, Scott

It sounds like you want the go-ahead to tool splurge! You can usually get a toe dolly, combo dolly, picking hammer, shrinking hammer and a slapper used. Tools are nice, but you will want the money ON the car, not in your box. I try to find a fender or hood from the same era for metal, rather than buy a flat sheet of modern metal. The thing that stands out for me on the list is the compressor. Check your CFM rating on the gun and the compressor. It may not be able to keep up. Don't forget personal safety stuff! Don't shoot without a good mask at least. Good to have something for when you are sanding too. Talk to your local paint supply place and they should set you up with materials that work well together and are easy for a newbie. If possible, drive it over and have them look it over before you start. Use real tape, not the Home Depot stuff. Same with the paper or plastic masking. No newspaper! Also, start lubing any fasteners that will be removed. Once the thing is bare, you do not want ANY spray stuff around, especially anything with silicone (armor all, tire dressing) - it's asking for fish eyes! If possible, use a local college facility. It works for me! EDIT: One tool that I've used a lot is a stud gun. You can even use it to shrink a oil canned dent. Here's a cheap one. http://www.toolsource.com/magnaspot-1000...urceid=googleps

If you can get to the back of every dent, don't bother with a stud gun.
The sanding blocks will determine the sandpaper. Always use good quality paper (3M) not cheap stuff.
There are a ton of how-to videos on you tube and available for purchase.
For the air, there are a lot of clever ways to filter the air and get the moisture out. For one job, there is NO WAY I'd spend 500 bucks on equipment.
I posted about the hoses and fittings. It has info in the links. I'd suggest shooting primer on smaller stuff first, to test the limits of your system. If you can work up to two fenders and a hood without a pressure or volume drop, you should be able to do a body...
I can't get to the back of all the dents; some in the decklid will be behind the decklid inner structure/frame.
I didn't see the links you referenced above.
Not at home so I don't have the gun model, but looks like the gun will need 10-13 cfm. Compressor is rated for 17 cfm, I believe.
Thanks,
Scott
