A few years back an aluminum intake painted blue to match the rest of the engine worked fine for me.Believe me unless there is a Mopar tech or another Mopar racer in your class no one will ever notice.
Way to easy to check for the tech... a magnet does wonders

We have doctored an aluminum intake with super fine metal shavings in the past. Passed the magnet test, more or less. lol.

I did that once... put metal filings in the paint and brushed it on... if the tech is decent he will know... I didnt get caught

Any dual plane intake will perform better with a broader horsepower range if you take the center divider down to 5/8" above the upper floor. That increases total air/ fuel volume to all cylinders.

If its all the same to you guys, we're going to build it legal. I'd rather get second place every weekend and do it legal then win by cheating. Plus, I'm sure Bill would rather not get caught cheating and then not allowed to pull with this organization for a year. I don't know how many times I've heard "That Dodge runs pretty good, he must be cheating". Why give them any more reason to believe that.
Cubes will be under 470.

The 71/72 manifold is the best. It has tow oval openings instead of a four hole. Holley bolt pattern too.

FWIW, when I truck pulled several years ago before everyone got stupid on spending ridiculous amounts of money to win a hundred bucks and trophy, I used a 70 model square bore manifold with the divider trimmed down and a 2 inch carb spacer on my 440. The iron intake is a B.S. rule anyway. Look at all of the chevy guys running square port heads, probably Merlins at that, and adapting an oval port cast iron intake to work with the heads. To my knowledege, they never made a square port BBC engine with a iron intake. As far as not cheating and winning, It aint gonna happen. Thats why I quit. EVERYONE cheats. 500+ inch motors on nitrous, hidden vac pumps to pull vac at idle, blocked suspensions, pro fab transfer cases, the list goes on and on....

Agreed. I read somewhere that the 71 intakes are also the tallest of the square bore intakes.

Are you sure the rules for the intake say 'Cast Iron' and not just 'Cast'. It makes a huge difference because one way it makes the class all about the intake manifold and the other way just rules out expensive hand-fabricated intake manifolds. The rule about iron heads is a good cost-reducing one and allowing any aftermarket cast intake is reasonable since cast manifolds are cheap. Restricting contestants to OEM Iron intake manifolds could really take the fun out of it. I can understand if there's some confusion about the terms 'cast' and 'cast iron' because some people use incorrect or incomplete terminology using the term 'cast' when they mean 'cast iron' or the term 'alloy' when they mean aluminum (that one is really annoying). A set of iron max wedge heads or 440-1's with an indy intake should support a lot more than 470ci. Quote:
I'm sure they'd just make me pull the carb to check with a magnet if questionable. The rules don't say anything about stock cast, just cast. I'm pretty sure the majority of them are running non-oem cast iron. I saw the Indy cast iron heads, but their intakes didn't say whether they were cast or not. I'll start looking for the 71/72 intake. Thanks guys, definitely alot more info/replies than what I expected.

It's a stock class. Cast IRON intake and exhaust manifolds! Ok just to be sure. Here is a pic of the intake manifold from my stock Dodge truck 75 440. Part # 3830733-2 and 05110 cast into it. I also have the same one on a 73 Dodge truck 440. When you all say 71 TQ manifold, are you not talking about just any TQ manifold? Is the 71 a taller/better manifold? Anyone have a pic? Thank you.
