Would love to have a speedometer in km/h being I'm in Canada.

Did Chrysler export anything that used a 67' Belvedere speedometer cluster, figure that would be my only hope.

You could check with Mike Mancini or any other gauge restorer for a metric overlay/decal for your speedo head.

A different gear would be needed to make the odometer work correctly in kilometers though..

why? a regular speedo with both sets of numbers works just fine.

what would be the difference of adding just the metric numbers?

A good many other countries went metric long long ago much of Europe was already there by the 1940's.

Two sets of numbers would be ok but the little stickers never look as clean as a full face.

Just thought with our Aussie mopar brothers, the European exports and the south American stuff maybe there was an existing speedo head out there.

I know I could have had one in my Duster from a mexican car just never got around to it. Photo radar is a plauge in my city they even have speed on green cameras and I'm not always paying attention to the conversion.

Australia never had a B body sold there...all the ones that went over there in the early days would have just had a decal or overlay done to the speedo from memory. (And the early cars there were in MPH still as well before the switch to metric)

In case it is any help, here is the page from the 67 parts book showing the metric/km speedo part numbers.

By the way,a full face decal overlay can look good if done well...seen it on converted stuff in Oz before. (we used a decal on hundreds of Chevy trucks we used to convert to RHD)

Don't forget to verify the speedo with a GPS as well to know it's correct in the first place.

As said though, the odometer will still need a gear change to work correctly.

Unless you could find a factory metric speedo somewhere, if there was one?

I was replying to the original poster of course, as it shows in my reply.

You can "trust" I was not replying to you indeed.

no problem-i have always wondered why you have a gmh car as your pic.-we have built a lot of toranas lately-couple of xu1`s and an l34 lookalike. i do know of nine original a9x`s all stored at one workshop-one is actually a brand new car never registered with only 140 kilometers on the clock. great to see some aussie cars got to u.s.a.

Aside from all the Aussie Mopars I have brought here, I bought and brought my hatch over in 2000. (along with 2 other ones as well)

While not an A9X, it is still an L32 4 speed car at least....well, was before I swapped the drivetrain out.

I've got some springs off a guy over there in Perth actually who has done the Targa West a bunch of times in a hatch..(He has done pretty well, against all the 911's and such)
And shipped over a bunch of tires for another guy over there with a real A9X hatch amoungst a bunch of other goodies...Lots of cars out East of course but seems to be some cool stuff floating around out West as well.

That's funny....was just talking to him about his latest one (that you had painted that is).. It's sitting on a bit of a lean and he was just sorting things out, checking the springs and all.

He sent me a few DVD's of a few of the Targas with him running. Pretty cool stuff.

What about sending your speedo out to one of the companies that refinishes them? Surely they would be able to convert it, although like said, the odometer would still be in miles.

I never had an issue driving with a mph speedometer but then in my town we don't have photo radar.

It's not that it's impossible or anything just thought it might be kinda cool if a guy could scare up a metric one.

The stock one works fine and is even pretty accurate -till I change gears this winter-

I had to make a little conversion placard that I keep stuck to the dash so I can remember. Photo radar and speed on green cameras are just a cash cow but that's another topic in and of itself.

I see there's a part number listed but I can only imagine how hard it would be to find.

Not sure where you are in Alberta, but Mr. Speedometer in Calgary can probably build an adapter for you, or has one, that would change from mph to kph . . . they might even have the correct speedo gear for your gear change . . .

Cheers

Mark
