Buck, I started with a 440 block in my 65 Dart and there simply isn't enough room to put that combo together with underchassis headers. The best thing you can do is to start with a low deck/stock location exhaust port head combo to keep from having to cut the passenger side shock tower for tube clearance. On the 440 the manifold studs were right up against the shock tower on the center two ports. I have never tried to fit the B/stock port combo so I don't know if it will have enough room, But even if it does the headers would be restrictive at the center two ports on the pass side for sure. My solution was fenderwell headers built by me. I can offer this from experience. First, I still needed to cut the pass side shock tower and move the chock stud mount out. For turning radius, they need to go four wide when going down behind the front tires for the turning radius issue. With what TTI or any others charge (and none fit the early A BB combo anyway)it may be in your best interest to have them custom built for your application. Someone else may chime in on fenderwells built for B bodys that may fit, but there will be big compromises most likely somewhere. Another option might be to go with a Mustang II front end. An altercation type front is another option, but spendy. The Mustang II may seem expensive, but you wind up with good disc brakes and less weight in the deal as well. Check the street rod Mustang II venders for custom applications like yours. The M II would seriously open up the engine bay and allow the use of many off the shelf headers, but still may require notching the trans cross member for both sides. Some of the early As had only one side designed for exhaust to clear. Hope this helps.

Man.....I have a small block with large-ish tubes ( 1 7/8" ) and that was interesting even with the AlterKtion. Still have one tube outside the frame rails , and the primaries are a little longer than optimum. That was with removing the shock towers and a good bit of inner fender. I would have been hating life if I tried to go with a big block. I am not saying it can't be done , but it will be snug and either time consuming or expensive.......or both. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

This would be a great time to take photos and share what mods were done to make them fit, then archive it. Care to do that? If you post the pics and info, we can get a mod to take care of the rest.

SB449VALIANT , all I can say is well played , Sir. I was probably overly concerned with length to the first bend , but should get some pics of the finished product for show and tell. You did a more than pretty fair job on those. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)
