I saw this in an ad in the For sale section, and was wondering if this is true or was even measured?

1971 Road Runner original 383 3 speed car.1 of 554 Canadian Road Runners built

Did Ma Mopar count the 71 RR built in Canada? If yes, where do I find this information to verify?

Thanks!

Someone has erroneously used production numbers from the white book and assumed that the difference between the total (14,218) and US sold (13,664) were all sold in Canada. This is incorrect as you have to account for Export cars also.

The number 554 includes CA sold AND Export cars. The breakdown between them is not known.

Doug, where they were sold and where they were built are two different topics, right? Do we know how many rm cars were built in the windsor rd plant for 71?

Good morning Dave.

Yes...two different parameters.

CA sold cars could have been built in the US and CA built cars could have been sold in the US. I don't know that a breakdown by plant has ever been published.

The point was, somone has misused the production numbers and the context of the numbers.

I did a double take on that one too...seller is confused. It is a Winsor built car, but coded U for USA sale. I've never come across a breakdown of production numbers by plant. Wrong on the numer of manual trans cars built too....3730 manual 383 cars built (across all engines). By my count, D13 3spd manual cars would total 793 for US shipped 71 runners.

Thanks Doug. I wasn't sure if anyone had a breakdown by plant...didn't think so.

Yeah, didn't make sense to me either. Mine is a "R" VIN-Windsor built, and a U order/sold.

I was given these figures years ago by someone that worked at Chrysler Canada at the time...I believe it was Walt McCall.

509- 383 4 bbl Autos
71 - 440 Six barrels AT/MT

40- with black/orange interior.

thanks. Interesting....

White books shows 14,218 total production for 71 RRs with 13,664 built for sale in US leaving 554 for outside of US. I wonder if some of the 'built for sale in the US' cars are included in that RR figure.

For GTX's...white book shows 2,942 total, 2,703 built for sale in the US leaving 239 for sale outside of US. If you subtract the 173 CA GTX's from above, that leaves 66 cars builtfor 'export' sale...a number that's not out of the realm of possibility considering some of the purchases by returning servicemen that were built as 'export' cars.

I'm looking at a GTS book right now. If we take one like mine, it states there were 3730 383-4, manual trans sold. My question would be; How many were built in St. Louis and Windsor. Another question...were there any other plants producing the '71 RR?

I don't think we will ever know the answers, but sure would like to know how many came out of Windsor and were sent to the US.

LA also.

Unless the actual plant records surface there is likely no way to know how many were made at each plant.
