Oh criminy people are worried about rod ratios Hear me know and listen to me later...You aint gonna find any power there brother Just find an acceptable to YOU piston CD that will allow the ring pack you want to use for the power level you are after and get a rod that fits...Nuff said.

I agree--Rod ratio is the most talked about least HP producing item in a modern engine today. I worked at a shop that did high end national winning circle track SBC's. Every other builder in the USA did 6 in minimum most did longer--BIG names I tell ya--we would get one in for a redo/ fresh up--dyno it--put our 5.7 rod combo in it and pick up a little--"Long rods are better" is a MYTH---yea I know about dwell etc ---build about a few decades worth of engines and you understand if the rod clears the cam and oil pan and keeps itself hooked to the crank and piston then thats all there is to it!!!!

I have a bit of an odd ball combination but it is a low deck deal based on a 383 so I thought it would still fit the thread. 4.280 bore with a short piston , small dome netting approx 11:1 compression. 6.860 MP lightweight Oliver rods , lightened stock crank with a slight decrease in stroke to 3.360" . MP Stage 6 heads with a small port ,MP 2.14 , 1.81 valves (3/8" stem) , MP 590 solid camshaft, Edelbrock victor 440 manifold with .080 cut off each side to fit the heads properly and a old carb shop 850 carb. This deal is 385 cid and seems to like shifting around 7800 rpm. Its in a 3100 lb car and has run a best of 9.86 at 135.60 in good air through header mufflers. Many don't believe its basically a 383 but thats fine. Its very mild , behaves well and has proven to be a great bracket motor for the past 5 years. I have another one of these im going to start pieceing together but I will increase the stroke to 3.600 as the small motor is lacking slightly in the torque department.

What kind of piston is that? specs? Thanks Rem

Don't laugh too hard. I actually bought them from the friend of a mopar 383 lover who had passed away and left these pistons behind for his future project which never happened (he had the same idea as me I guess). They are Venolia pistons , .187" dome with valve reliefs , lightened in every possible way , .927 pins (very short but similar to todays lightweight honeycomb style pistons undercut below the oil rings for weight savings) and they were made in 1971!! They are very noisy as the running clearance is much higher than what is run with todays designs.

mine's kind of a newbie motor 400 .030 over KB240 flatop pistons. Eddie performer rpm kit - came with rpm heads, cam, rpm intake. HS 1.5 rockers, hv pump, holley 750 street carb, schumy headers. heads needed milling so the comp ratio is about 9.7:1 MSD 8386 dizzy (has a built in elec ign) 300/308 duration 238/246@.050 lift .480/.495
i'm curious what kind of hp/tq i'll get. it's waiting in line for the dyno
I'll make a guess at 425-450hp/torque? what do we get if we win?
