The truck has 160,000 miles on it anyone have any ideas. Looking for an inexpensive fix (though I know thats probably not realistic). I just got back to work after being out on disability for 7 weeks due to a heart attack and we just bought my wife a long over due replacement for her 2000 300M that had 150,000+ on it. Money is very tight right now so any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

If the trans still has all 3 forward gears but no Reverse the problem is in the rear band/servo. Pull the pan and make sure the rear band lever is still attached to the band by pulling down on the lever; if there is resistance to pulling but the lever pulls down more than a half inch adjust the band. If the lever is hanging loose the link has popped out or the band/linkage is broken.

The servo could also be the problem, check for a torn seal or dislodged spring retainer.

Does it have a solid forward motion if you pull it down in manual low ?

I'm hopefully going to pull the pan this weekend so I'll check. Thanks for the tips.

I didn't pull it into low I just put it in drive and it drove. I will check that. How is that different from first gear in drive? Does it apply the band differently?
