I've got non adjustable axle bearings in my drag car (Dana 60), and while I've got it apart getting new gears I want to get new axle bearings. I see they sell both with a snap ring and without a snap ring but I don't see the difference and wonder if someone has a good picture of what I'm looking for to tell the difference. I looked at the image of both types and they kinda look alike to me.
Thanks, mike

I like the snap-ring type for no other reason than it's easier to see when you are pressing them on the axle

I see that being a good thing. Are they both interchangable? I will head out to the garage later today and check them out again, but don't know if it matters which type I buy?

I would only buy from Doctordiff He only sells the good bearings and could give you a more clear answer on why one is better than the other

Those beraings are used in other applications other than automotive, that being the reason for the snap ring groove.

The ones on my axles have the groove for the snap ring, so I'll just get those. I looked at Dr. Diffs offerings and he only has the ones with the snap ring on there, so he uses them as well. I just don't know the strength difference, or if there is a difference. Maybe the good doctor will chime in and inform us?

First generation Green bearings with the crimped on flange (still sold by Mopar Performance) are problematic. They push the axles inward too far, which preloads the differential thrust block.

In addition, the crimped on flange does not allow the bearing to wiggle around in the housing end like the snap-ring version, or the OEM bearing. This further preloads the bearing, as most housings are not prefectly straight.
