It is running and driving. It can do most everything that car can do with the RAMBLER engine in it. I don't need no stinking chevy motor. The only reason Jimi went with a chevy is because he knew he'd be breaking parts and so went with the easiest motor to build and find cheap parts for. Can't do that with expensive AMC parts, IF you can find them, and IF they even make those parts.
But the basic is, the AMX is an AWESOME car.

I'm not a fan of Chevy motors in AMC's at all.

Oh, and yes, the International Sports Car Club, or whatever their acual name is, declared back in '68 or '69, that the AMX WAS a sports car. AND American Motors built the AMX with competion against the Corvette in mind.

I also have a '68 AMX that needs everything. I'd like to get one of the aftermarket front suspensions, k-member, etc., like he has on his car, but I don't have the $5,000 to get one, plus installation costs.

That car has DSE first gen Camaro suspension under it. It was here for the SORC this year, got to see it in person. It's one of those cars you REALLY wish you could drive when you look at it.

On the other hand he did his car the way he wanted, with what he wanted to use for the reasons he stated. It's great that it does so good. I did my car with stock parts, other than the anti-sway bars and heavier & shorter coil springs up front, it can't beat his, but I have fun with my car too. Yes my car has new but stock spring rate Go Pack rear springs.

I just scored a 69 AMX a month ago off Craigslist. It is a 390 4 speed car too. It is missing the engine. I would like to locate a 390 for it. If I cannot locate one I have a 360 Magnum I was thinking of putting in it. Are people ok with putting Mopar engines in AMC cars or is it as bad as putting a Chevy engine in it?

With a DSE front frame and LS motor, is this basically a kit car with an AMC body on top of it?

I kinda look at it like this, DSE is thriving because the stock GM suspension is garbage. So they are basically the Bill Reilly of the GM world and that is their Alter-K-tion bolt in kit. Its only GM in application not from any of its components. Its a bolt in rack and pinion, coilover suspension with its own engineered pickup points. Plus its a complete front subframe as well. They also just released their 66-70 Mustang setup that is also bolt-in and cast from aluminum in house. I talked with Tom Farrington and his wife last August and they said he just got an E body roller that was his next project.
