getting ready to install my fresh 340, nothing radical. Late 340, 73 slight cam over stock and air gap with headers. What is the best ignition system to go with. Is the mopar performance system ok ?

There reallly is no advantage in performance for ow buck to high $$ except bells and whistles if the system is performing the way it is supposed to and not faulty. I would and do run with the oem type. If something goes south the parts are no farther than your nearest corner parts house.
I did update? to a Crane system with MSD distributor in the race car. What did I gain?? ease of setting the advance. which is no big deal because once set it is set and don't change. A rev limiter was also gained. Again big price for that. As for performance 0 gain. 350 + bucks needlessly spent.

i would probably go with a mp style set up. i have a msd digital 6 and msd dist. its never given me any problems but i think a mp kit would work just as well.

I would go with a FBO ecu/coil & a quality dist that the curve can be adjusted externally. EDIT I would give Don @ FBO a call & pick his brain, very informative for the slight addition to your ph bill.

best woild probbably some type of coil on plug or individual coil per plug distrubitorless system like the new cars have.

A good basic electronic ignition would be a re-curved stock electronic distrubitor (basically the distrubitor that comes in the Mopar kit) with some type of electronic ignition module like the Mopar Orange box, Pertronix module, HEI Module, etc.

You could upgrade the electronics to a CD ignition box like the MSD6AL or Chane HI-6.

The distrubitor can also be upgraded to a billit type with adjustable advance features.

There is a huge selection of coils to choose from, but they need to be compatable with the ignition module you use.

there are couple of threads talking about that, and apparently for the investment, go for MSD ign is not worth specially for the use you will have. MP will be good enough and MSD or MP blaster coil ( they are the same )

Funny you mention FBO, I was on their site earlier tonight researching ignition units that they sell,
