My original /6 bars are very weak (over 250,000 miles on the car). Thinking of going with .920 bars for a car that's 50% street/50% track. It has a 360 in it and it's running 12.70's.

How will the .920 handle on the street and will it negatively effect my time?

The \6 bars are coing to give the best eight transfer for straight line acceleration. I think they are to light for even a \6 for handling.

I have .890 big block bars in my 360 powered 68 Barracuda. These work very well. The ride is smooth, not much nose dive under breaking and combined with a 1.125 sway bar the cars stays flat in transitions. I have heard from folks that .920 bars work geat on the street and I have also heard that they get very choppy on rough pavement and the wheels have a hard time staying in contaxct with the road.

In response to that comment, I can't dispute what you have "heard", but I have never read that once here on moparts in over 5 years. Sounds more like a misapplied shock problem then a TB, like KYB's

IMO, nothing less then 1" dia if street driven. Not sure weight transfer is that much of an issue in your overall application anyway.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Are you talking about an A-body, the orignal poster is looking for bars for his Demon?

Can't imagine 1" or larger bars on an A-body being any but a buck board. On a B/E body where the bar is longer you need the larger diameter just to have the same spring rate as a shorter bar.

For what it's worth, my son's 383/4sp 67 Barracuda has had .990" bars and 1.14" bars. BOth with KYB shocks. The .990" bars originally had a stock big block sway bar and then a larger front bar with an added rear bar. I did not think the ride was objectionable with the .990's, but I never got to drive it enough with the 1.14's to form an opinion. Handling is exceptional.

I agree with the KYB statement, my wore out shocks rode better than the KYB's I replaced them with. I went to a .96 t-bar (taxicab bars) and Spax shocks on my 67BCuda with a FirmFeel front swaybar.

Clair's Valiant has some beefy t-bars and can't recall him saying it rode too harsh. But good shocks are a must with big bars.

Hey, I recognize that photo...

That's a 1.14" bar on the left, 0.92" on the right. I upgraded from 0.89's to the 0.92's looking for an improvement in handling. It was quite noticible, but not what I was looking for. With KYB's in front (the same pair Daty used, BTW) the ride on the highway was essentially the same as my wife's 2002 Acura TL. A nice firm(er) ride, but not as "sporting" as I wanted. On rougher roads, like the brick streets in older parts of town, the ride was MISERABLE. Squeaks, rattles, crashes & bangs... definitely a washboard effect going on. This was not a spring problem, it was a shock problem. Better shocks would have had a much nicer ride on these rough streets. 0.92" bars, IMHO, are a great compromise bar for a street/strip car. Really, they're the minimum bar I'd ever run on a small block cruiser. Weight transfer won't be as good as with /6 bars, but will still be OK. Road manners will more than make up for any diminished launch issues.

IMHO (again) the 1.14" bars I have now are totally streetable - IF you have good shocks. I'm running adjustable QA1 Stocker Stars on my Valiant, and the ride is about the same as my Dad's 94 Corvette. I don't think anyone would say that a stone stock Corvette is intolerable on the street. Even my wife thinks my Valiant rides pretty well with the big bars and good shocks - better than with the 920's and KYB's. Good shocks are some of the best money you can spend on your car. Really.

Clair

I have .920" bars on the front of my 67 Dart, with a large swaybar and some decent quality gas shocks, and I would say that the car rides and handles as well as my wife's PT Cruiser. It is way better than any stock A Body I have ever driven. I was expecting a rough ride, but I really have no complaints.

Thanks to everyone.

Looks like I will go with the .920's and get a pair of good shocks.
