Does anyone know the weight difference between a 15X8 or so Weld Draglite and the Summit version of the same wheel? Thanks!
it's not the "same" wheel. the welds are rotary forged the summit is cast, apples to oranges. regardless of weight i wouldn't be very interested in the cast wheel. i looked into this when buying wheels thinking maybe they were the same wheel...they're not

OK guys, I know they are different wheels. That's why I was asking what the weight difference is between the two. I'm assuming the generic Summits are a little heavier than the Welds. I was just curious about how much heavier.
I think everyone was just clarifying that for you since alot of summit brand products are actually another product without the label i.e. they could be welds without the weld stamping, etc.
As for weight, I have never weighed them, but I am assuming with the difference in construction, and seeing others post on a variety of forums about them, there may be a considerable difference. Plus, not sure how fast you are planning to go, but many do not recommend a non shank style wheel for drag racing especially at higher speeds.
Welds are common enough that if you find they are too expensive I am sure you could find a used set that with a mothers powerball you could polish right back to new looking for half the price of a new set
just my

Just an idea..............
what about contacting Summit themselves and inquiring about the "shipping weight" of each??
I went over to their site briefly to look it up........
they give about every other piece of info but no weight.
Figured I'd do a percentage comparo of the two shipping costs (weld vs Summit) but the way they spec the cost for shipping it is ballparked if under 20lbs.
EDIT: Just looked up 15X8 specifically and there's even less info. Good luck!

I found this on another forum:
"15 by 4 Fast Five weighs 16.5 lbs , Pro-Star 15 by 3.5 weighs 10.5 15 by 8 Fast Five weighs 20.25 lbs , Pro-Star 15 by 8 weighs 13 lbs. 15 by 10 Fast Five weighs 22.375 lbs, I don't have a Pro-Star 10" weight."
This is for the Prostar not the Draglite but probably close weight differences. So it looks like they would probably weigh about 7 pounds more per wheel.
Good info
