I have an ignition box that I would like help identifying. As you can see from the picture, the top box is a chrome box which I purchased from Direct Connection through my local dealer. The bottom, black/gold ignition box is one I acquired along with other desirable parts about 20 years ago.

Is anyone able to help identify this second box as an aftermarket high performance or stock box? I cross referenced the # and could not find anything. The person who originally purchased it can’t recall if he got it from the regular parts department at the dealership or ordered it through Direct Connection. He purchased this box in the early 80's.

The black/gold box looks like a factory unit to me.

Early were 5 pin.
Early like in my youth....the 70's.

Maybe later, too.

Do a search on the web. Its just a stock replacement.
The pics I found show the orange chrome and gold are all 4 pin. Your chgrome one could just be a stock setup too? Ive seen them before

I have a Chrome box purchased from a Direct Connection dealer in 1976 with 5 pins...

I have a box, identical to the mystery box, that was OEM on a 1973 Newport 400-2bbl. Hardly high performance!

Dogdays,

Thanks for the info. Does your box still have the part number on it? If so, is it the same part number as this one?

FYI...the Chrome box (top) with the 5 pin was how they came back in the day. I purchased this Chrome Box new from through the dealer and the Direct Connection program in 1980.
