I am purchasing a Summit sealed power forged engine kit for a spare 440 I have sitting around and they tell me that the it comes with .010 rod and .020 main bearings.

Wouldnt I want the mains to also be .010 if the crank seems to have very little wear and if cleans up nicely????

Is there any benefit to taking more material off the crank just to fit those bearings?

Normally you have the option of specifying bearing undersize & piston/ring oversize dimensions...

The block cleaned up at .030 over. The crank and rods dont seem to have any abnormal wear on them.

I was thinking .010/.010 would be the likely combo that came in the kit but they specify .020 on the mains. I will see if they will swap them out on my order in that kit.

I've had two 440's that were low mileage that cleaned up with only a hone job in the cylinders. I used the Summit kits on both with std./std. bearings and standard rings. Both engines turned out really nice and are strong performers.

You might have to place that order over the phone and specify the bearings. Watch out with those kits though, a lot of the time they come with very crappy pistons. Low compression flat tops with no valve reliefs. Not something you want to go through all the effort and expense of putting into your engine IMO.

Someone was steering you wrong. There are a whole bunch of kits with different bearing sizes.

It appears the pistons in the kit are Speed Pro forged flat tops with valve reliefs which makes them the 2355s, I think. I still think you could do better with a lighter piston, but at least they aren't the low compression slugs.

Well the picture shows valve reliefs but the text clearly states "no valve reliefs".... Which puts this build right back at 8-1 cr..
