Looking for a little help here with the marks on my car, I know these marks are original but has anyone got other photos to compare?

I'll gladly reproduce this mess but may have to engage the kindergardner next door. Personally it looks like the factory guy may have dropped the paint during this job.

Looks like orange slopped down, then yellow slopped over the top . . . with a yellow drip (in the top of the photo). . . . . really ! ! ! and Lord knows what it means. . .

I'm really curious what other originals look like.

Thanks for the help

Awesome timing. I just painted my steering box yesterday. Mine had been media blasted before I go it so I never got to look for marks. I'll be interested to see what others have.

The boxes at some time were all painted black as an assembly, and your picture shows that.

But where those inspection marks put on before or after the unit was sprayed black?

Without doubt inspection marks after black paint. I've seen all the whopla about painted black or not and don't care so much, as I have pretty reliable proof for mine.

Still want to see if anyone can show similar inspection marks (or in this case globs.)

You can see it with your own eyes. Much better than a digital picture. The marks "appeared" to be after the black in the pictures.

It's interesting to see what others have.
But what you have on YOUR car that makes a case to be original trumps all.

Excellent job at carefully cleaning and disassembling your parts then taking pictures to document. So many people blast, steam, powerwash all the marking off their parts. Then copy or ask what other cars have for markings, when the answers were right in front of them.

It's very time consuming and most resto places or people building cars to sell will not take the effort to do. Or the owner will not pay them to take this effort.

only on this forum will the effort be appreciated, family and friends call it obsesive, crazy, anal retentive and a few other flatering terms. Only when complete will anyone truly appreciate the effort. Maybe why I'm on year 5 and still not complete.

I wanted to see what other marks people have found, particularly on AAR's but in general as well to see if any patterns emerge.

I can certainly reproduce this with some accuracy and prove what was there, and based on the overwhelming responces at the moment, it looks to be heading that way.

Just hope that this mark doesn't become the standard

Are these marked like suspension parts where you have parts bin marks to tell the line worker left and right (for example) so they know what to use when they are retrieving parts during assembly? The left steering arm on my 74 Road Runner has a pink mark with the drip going the wrong way for an assembled piece. It does have a white inspection mark with a drip line according to gravity after assembly. The pink drip and the white drip are in two different directions. The right steering arm only has a white inspection mark. Presumably the line worker used pink on the left and no mark on the right so they don't have to read numbers.
Are the TA boxes different than others?

Unsure if T/A boxes are marked any different than others, cant seem to get anyone to post any pictures to compare, T/A or otherwise.

While I'm no expert on steering box inspection marks I suspect the marks are to validate proper adjustment and torque of the hardware for the valve body (just a guess based on location)

There is a member here who's dad worked on the power steering assembly line for a while. I'm having a mind block and just can't remember his username, posts all the time.
