I am now finally going to order a new block so my choices are limited to world and the mopar block because they have wedge mounts. Has anyone here run the alum block on the street and were you able to get one with the lifter wholes already drilled.

Thanks

I have one on my Valiant and have had no issues with it. All the usual checks with any aluminum block are required with this one: ensure the sleeves sit flat with the deck, check for the aforementioned ARP studs (that was a while ago), be sure the rear seal retainer fits correctly in the block. Some of the retainers on the market are not machined correctly.

As I stated in that other thread, you cannot just replace them!!!!!!

The crank bores must be re-alinged honed at a minimum after re-torquing to the correct spec if you indeed find this issue. If they don't clean up, its junk.

there ok if your making 700 hp but they are junk after that

you can actually see the block flex as you are machineing it

sorry you had back luck. I had back luck with a carb before that others swear by.... but I never had done what you mentioned and all is okay and still to date. I run an oberg filter I check regularly and the only thing that has shown up in there is the bronze dizzy bushing crap (prolly my fault somehow on something) (IMO obergs are worth their weight in gold)and to say world blocks only good to 700hp is silly IMO. andyf has made more than that with stock block stuff. however I heard world had issues before so who knows. maybe I am lucky for now

To the OP if ya go that route here is the stud replacement you need

ARP #AR4.620-1LB X 8 and #AR4.400-1LB X 2

Why would yoou want a aluminum bock to run on the street unless you want to impress your friends and those that don't know what block material is better for ring sealing If your going to use a power adder like a blower or turbo ignore the above My stock 400 block pump gas stroker single four barrel carb. makes 727 HP, 710 ft. lbs torque at 4300 ft. on a stingy DTS engien dyno

Well 80 mil turbo hyd roller from Scott brown this will be 440 cubic inch with edelbrock rpm heads. I have the fast system withe 95 lds inj a pro-flow intake with throttle body.
The trans is a t 400 with a brake the rear is a moser d-60 with spool. The car is a 68 dart viper red with black full interior I am down to building the motor and trans so I need a block that can handle max 1000 hp on boost although I'm not planning on making that number. I am looking at the world alum or the mopar iron block and this matters it will be on pump gas
All input is appreciated thanks Paul!

Mine is bad to the bone. It made 1034HP with B1 heads, went 7.33 on the brakes at Las vegas in 4100ft, lasted 230 passes before I decided to rebuild it, and was one of the first ones made, it had ARP studs.

World blocks from Bill Mitchell have had ARP studs for years now. That Chinese stud problem was found quickly and short lived. It's amazing how stories like that hang on forever with the internet.

I have built several motors with World blocks and have found no problems different from what you would expect with any out of the box product. Sure you should line-hone the block and hone the lifter bores. That's a given with any new block.

I have run a World block in my dragster since 2007 at over 1000 HP and have zero problems. I just torn it down yesterday after 2 seasons with virtually no maintenance (changing the oil and checking lash) and everything looks great. I could reuse the bearings if I had to.

The improved cooling design is noticeable when hot lapping. The only change I made was to use the MRE223 dual 0-ring rear main seal retainer.

I got my aluminum last fall 2010 and it had Chinese main studs. two friends got iron and both cam with Chinese main studs. And they look Chinese.
I got ARP main studs from Summit but Bill Mitchel had stud upgrade kits at the time??
My buddy with the iron world block phoned ARP about his main bolts in July 2011 and ARP said we don't know what's up with world they just sent us boxes and boxes of just studs back for credit???

Most of my experiences have been with HEMI blocks. Maybe the wedge blocks sat around for a while?? You can check the casting dates on the left side.

I just talked to Bill Mitchell Jr, in person, a few weeks back when I ordered another wedge block. He told me the main stud issue affected only about 15 customers, and that they have totally converted to ARP. All I can do is pass it on.

BTW: I made an error in my motor. I built it in 2009 not 2007.
