just finshed my new 572 hemi. Engine is on a break in stand. It has a msd 6al and distributor. power is going threw the distributor ask my left hand ouch. with the number piston at tdc I made sure the number 1 valves were closed and set the distributor button pointing at number 1 going counter clockwise. I even flip the distriburtor thinking i could be 180 i got the same response it acts like it is still out of time. I even went 1 notch to the right and left still acts funny. my valve lash is right on the money. it will turn over but not run my cam is 2 degrees advanced and is 10 to 1 engine. I have a electric fuel pump and regulator and is set on 6 pounds. everything on the engine is new. the onley the i can think of is maybee oil is getting under my spark plug tubes and messen with my plugs . Plugs are autolite 65. please help

Make sure your coil is firing when the motor is being spun over on the starter, pull the coil wire out and spin the motor over while watching for spark. If this is a flat tappet cam and lifters pull all of the sprak plugs out to do this test # two is to make sure the coil is getting voltage in the run position when you let go of the key or starter button Let us know what you find out I try to align the rotor to the number one spark plug wire in the distributor cap with the balancer sitting with the TDC marker on the ten to twenty degrees marks on the balancer or timing cover before top dead center

It is a solid roller cam and when we built the motor we degreed the cam and then checked the tdc and then marked the ballancer. the motor is on a break in stand with gauges i have a swith that works the msd box it does light up with a red flash at first then as the motor is cranking i can see the red button flash as the rotor button hits everey prong under the cap. and i know i have power to the plug trust me on THAT WOW.

Set it to point at #1 when you have the crank on 34*
with #1 on the compression stroke

Pull the coil wire and crank it over to see if spark is getting down to the end of the coil wire Do the simple stuff first BTW, most MSD ignitions can bite you hard, even when not turning them over CDI= Capacitor Discharge Ignitions Been there, done that

You need 2 thing to fire it up,spark & fuel.Did you set the floats on the carb{s}?Is ther fuel squiting in when you "pump"it?If so,then it's the spark timing

HEMI-ITIS has no cure.
My condition is fully BLOWN!!

Yes, i did set the float and yes it is squirting out. What about a vacume leak? It wont run long enough to check. What other timing would you set it at??

Compression would be the third one but we wont talk about that one yet

Thats not what we're saying... whats the cranking pressure...
and 10:1 is just a math figure... the cam will dictate
what the pressure is

put # 1 piston at tdc. timing mark should be on 0. the slot on the intermediate shaft should be in line with the cam. set dist with rotor pointing to #1 on the cap.
