Actually Murray B.Park at www.cbodies.com is the one who told me that from his searching it was only nine 4speeds with the 383 Monaco 500 made and only one 4speed with the 440 Monaco 500 in 1966 and he has that one.He's located in Ohio but he was at Carlisle this year and a buddy of mine told him what I had and he gave him my number and he called and told me that it was a rare car and only nine of them but I hadn't been able to get in contact with him again to get some documentation

I'm also new to this forum.

I too own a 1966 Dodge Monaco, factory 4 speed car.

Mine is a genuine Canadian car, and therefore has the prerequisite Dodge-badged Plymouth Sport Fury interior and dash. In Canada, there was only the Monaco 500, although it was not called 500, just simply Monaco, and only available as a 2 door hardtop, of convertible, (Canada only). Any lesser full size Dodges were Polaras (440 and 880), again with Plymouth Fury dashes and Fury III interiors.

Mine is also, (much to my good fortune), a genuine 440 car. I have spoken with and have a letter from the original owner, who special ordered the car from a dealership in Calgary Alberta and he told me it's history. A long and interesting story which I won't go into here for now.

It is nicely equipped with power buckets, tilt/tele, tach, rear seat speaker, tint glass, power windows with child safety lock-out switch, power brakes and steering, 3" police brakes all round, (not discs), and a special order dealer installed Chrylser Search Tuner radio and power antenna package. The car was a radio delete car, and the installers simply cut holes right through the delete plate!!

I have also been to visit Murray Park, and Galen has also seen my car at Carlisle. They both confirm to the best of their knowlege, that 66 Monaco production totalled about 10,000 cars in the USA, with four speed cars being about 1/10th of 1% of total, which comes out to 10 cars. That's in the USA. Murray claims that his USA Monaco 500 440 4-speed car is the only one, and that the rest were 383 only cars, as the 440 was in limited production and primarily reserved for installation in Chrylers that year, although many Dodges and Plymouths did get the 440 later on in the year as they became more available.
I've seen Murray's car, and it has a special order placque on the dash for the original owner. Interesting.

Canadian production numbers generally run to about 1/10th of USA totals for any given year. Option breakdowns are more difficult to ascertain, but if we go with 1/10 of 1% for Monaco 4 speed cars, we come up with a total of 1.

I contacted Chrysler Canada, and they can't find records of my car, but also told me that special order car records were not kept, which is in line with the original owner's report that he special ordered the car.

Your car is certainly very rare! You can safely say that it's one of 10, and I can safely say that mine is a 1 of 1. Not many vintage vehicle owners can safely say that!

Sounds like a great car but.. how did you(guys) come up with 4 speed production numbers in the US? 4 speed C bodies were very common back then. Sounds like there was some guessing going on The very first 4 speed car I drove was my dad's '66 Monaco. Up until that time it was 3 speed sticks..

52Savoy, you may very well be correct, I am only repeating what I was told by both Murray Park and Galen. Other than that I have no concrete information on real production numbers.

The following from Ward's 1967 Auto Yearbook on 1966 US Built Units:
Dodge C Body 4 Speed .2% of 136473 Units = 273
Dodge C Body 3 Speed .6 % = 820
1966 Chrysler Corp 440 Production was 69,952 units;the vast majority of which were installed as standard equipment in 66 Impys and New Yorkers.Dodge and Plymouth C's were uncommon with 440's.
Canadian 66 Polaras and Monacos with 440's are almost unheard of...lots of Poly Powered and 383's built with more than a sprinkling of slant powered Sedans.

As you can see, therefore, ANY 4 speed C body Dodge from 66 is very rare... I wouldn't say they were commonplace by any definition.

I would also say, (again with no concrete evidence to back it up other than what respected historians have said many times), that the majority of those were 383 powered, the 440 since being new, and the new flagship motor, being reserved primarily for Chryslers until they became more plentiful later on in the production year.

Just reading about the 66' Monaco 4 speed.....very INTERESTING as we have a car we would like to find out more about.

It is a running and driving "1967" Dodge Monaco 500 factory 440 Magnum 4 speed CONVERTIBLE with the Dana 53 3:31 posi, disc brakes and 15" wheels. It is a Canadian built car that we are planning to restore and are looking for the original or properly dated coded 18 spline A-833 & shifter apparatus.....someone in the past swapped out the standard for a 727 with a Cordoba shifter and pushed the clutch pedal up to the fire wall. They also painted it red. It was factory black with a red interior and a white top. It also has the tilt and telescopic steering wheel and is a console delete car. We are aware that it is rare...though how rare is it really and knowing more about it's past may just make the restoration that much more meaningful.....Thanks!

Going from memory 67 Dodge C Body 4 gear #'s are extremely low....55 or 56.I parted one ; a rotten Monaco 500 Fastop 383 4 gear Canuk car.It appeared to be completely virgin but when we tore the engine down it had 915 heads.Restored one -67 Monaco 500 convert for a customer ....it took over a year and lots of $$$ to find all the lower trim in NOS.This was a decade ago probably near impossible to do now.Still have a Canadian build 440/375 auto Ragtop in the yard but its pretty much gone.I'd like to see the fender tag info off your car.

I wonder who ended up with the one I saw for sale at Carlisle a few years back.The gent that was restoring when he the big "C" got him.His friends all pitched in and finished the car to be sold with the proceeds to go to a charity that he chose before his passing.If I had the cabbage at the time I WOULD own the car.Big block,stick with A/C!!!!
