I just replaced the 727 in the van and seem to remember 19 pints. Can't find it in a book right now, any way that was with out the converter. I would suggest starting with a quart in the converter and 9 quarts in the trans. That will be enough to safely get it warmed, then check the fluid level and top off as needed.
I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.

OK found it, (chiltons auto trans repair manual) the 727 takes 19 pints and the 904 takes17 pints this is with the converter.
I have mechanical Aptitude. I can screw up anything.
