The stock gutter on the e-body vert dumps to the inside of the quarter panel and then out of the drainage hole in the rocker. This led to some rust on my car due to pluggage of the drain.

Anyone ever pipe this out? If so, what did you do?

I've thought about it but never done it.... I think you need to form a plastic or metal cap for each end of the trough that accepts 1/2" irrigation hose which could be routed down to a hole drilled through the inside of the rocker draining under the car... The problem is leaves could block the drain... But thats an issue now & the leaves get down in the bottom of the quarter & trap moisture rather than plugging your drain

I know, seems like such a dumb design to have water just fall and splash around inside the quarter. I simple hose or pipe set up running out the car would make more sense. Had the same thought but not made any improvements yet.

Surely someone has done something? I had heard mercedes or bmw's pipe their drains?

I did that on a Challenger 13 years ago. This was done when I was doing a complete restoration on my car. I cleaned out the leaves and stuff that drips out of the rockers and sprayed some runny paint in the quarter so it would flow down and out and cover the inner part of the quarter to help preserve it incase any moisture got in there. I took and welded the ends of the channel so the water couldnt drip out on the lower quarters. Then I used Por-15 and lined the channel to cover some pin holes that were in the bottom of the channel. I took 2 small pipe nipples and drilled holes in the bottom of the channel about a foot from each end and welded the nipples in the bottom flush with the channel. Then I drilled a hole in the top of the wheel well and ran some hose to the nipple and thru the top of the wheel well so the water would drip onto the top of the tires.

I did a drain similar to superbeejim (Hi Jim!)
on my B-body convertible.
I blocked the drain gutter with an end plate, drilled a hole in the bottom and welded a s/s tube into it and routed it to the bottom edge of the rocker panel... fitted to drop out the factory drain opening on the rocker panel pinchweld.

67-69 A's have the same bum design... My quarters are rusty in front of the rear wheels also.

SuperbeeJim and Resto Rick - any pictures of your mods? What size tubing / hose for the drain?

I thought I routed it down to the rocker panel...
It dumps in the wheelhouse.
I used a s/s tube, 3/8" id.

Is this something I should be doing while the interior / 1/4 glass is out of our Coronet 500 convertible? Do I need to have the quarters off of the car to access this area? Sorry if this is a dumb question I am somewhat new to convertibles.

The interior trim panels removed will allow access...

Ok folks, I took a look at this today and cannot thank everyone enough for bringing this to my attention. What a crazy half baked design! I always wondered why 1/4 window tracks, etc are so hard to find and now it makes sense. Even our car, which spent it's whole life in the high desert, had the adjustment nut frozen at the bottom of the track. Makes good sense now!
