Hi,
Does anyone know if the windshield wiper system from a 73 or newer A-Body will interchange with the 72 and earlier models? The pivot bushings are shot on my 68 Barracuda and searching for new parts have been fruitless. I have learned that there was a production change between the 72 and 73 model A-bodies. The pivot bushings for the later are readily available. I am wondering if it is posible to just swap my 68 wiper system with one from a 73 or newer version. Has anyone tried this?

Thank you,

Russ

I know I replaced the entire 2-spd system on my Valiant with the 3-spd system from my 74 Dart, but I really don't remember there being a difference in the bushings. They're available all over the place, including the dealership. Get some cheap ones from the Help! aisle at AutoZone or Poop Boyeez, and see if they work.

russ all I can tell you is the bushings I see for
sale are nothing at all like the ones in my 70 Swinger. Do you have a picture, I might have a couple more around here I collected.

Dart 340,

Sounds like you may have the same type of bushings as on my car. I can't post a picture now but will try to explain what they look like.

Its base has a 3/4 X 3/4 inch square flange with 2 sides turned up which grips opposite sides of the linkage rod, the cylindrical portion passes through the hole in the linkage end and sleeves the pivot pin. this portion is split in 4's and acts like a spring which holds the linkage rod to the pivot. It also has an internal male ring that snaps into a groove on the pivot pin. It appears to be made of nylon and is black.

This thing looks nothing like the ones still available through Chrysler or those sold by Dorman-HELP.

Later,I will attempt posting a picture but this clear as mud explanation is the best I can do for now.

Yowza! That's not something I had filed in the memory banks... When I did my swap, all I was interested in was ditching the 2-spd for the 3-spd, so I didn't really pay attention to those bushings. I also can't swear if I replaced the wiper pivots when I did the swap, but I do know that I took a stab at replacing the pivot seals. That means I DID remove them, I just can't remember if I put them back or used the 74 parts. I'll see if I can find some parts to compare in the garage this evening...

Oh yea, those are the ones on my 70 for sure.

Russ, I will look in my parts bin to see if I have any extra.

I replaced some missing or broken plastic/nylon bushings in my '72 Valiant wiper linkage about 7 years ago. I got the bushings at the local Dodge place

Part number / description
3799089 BUSHING N 23043008 LIST 4.05 NET 4.05

Ouch!

I can't say for sure; been a long time, and the car's 900 miles from here right now, but they look the same best I can remember...they had them in stock at the Dodge dealer.
