Anyone here have any experience with them building a good solid leaf spring to rival the famous SS springs of yore?

They were good last I heard. I would go with Landrum if they are still around.

I had a set of springs built by them, car launched like it had SS springs but not the extra height that comes with the SS springs.

Your set were made by Landrum you say?
The reason being that the SS springs that we occasionally love are not so well made any more.

they are made in Mexico now and loose the "springyness".

Yes this was 12 years ago but they were still good when I sold the car. Also you can have them put what ever size arch you want in them. I wanted the car to sit lower so I have very little arch.

another company took off on us??? shame

I had Eaton make up the leafs on my Camaro about 14 years ago..I had them de-arch 2", meaning one leaf had to go, so now there's 4 instead of 5...

there is no loss or sagg in them and I use Cal-Tracs and a stabilizer bar...

I feel they are AWESOME

Forgive me please, but you are talking about Landrum Springs being your choice 12 years back correct?
I know the current SS springs are made in Mexico and are junk before long. I just want to get a set of either NOS 457-456 SS springs from back in the day or get a set made from places like Landrum.
Eaton Detroit Spring came into question because I travel to Detroit most often.

Do the new springs that Landrum makes have the same spring rate, bias control.etc that the super stock has?

Yes mine did. Just told them what I wanted and they made them.

My chassis guy at the time, was a mopar guy and knew his stuff. Too bad the economy took a dump and he had to get a real job....

I bought a set of stock HD suspension spec leafs for my 66 New Yorker from Eaton about 6 years ago and I was a little underwhelmed to say the least. The only difference between the humped over backward 40 year old originals and the new ones was the nearly $400 I payed for them. Dropped the jack after install and there was the bumper at about the same ride height as before . In fairness to Eaton I never called them because the springs sat in my shop for over a year before I installed them so I can't comment on customer service.

They were decent enough to deal with as far as the buying went .

Kevin

Hi, Yes I think Eaton Detoit Spring is pretty good. But I am bias for I own Eaton Spring, a company my Grandfather started way back in 1937.
To start all our springs are Made In The USA. We have over 24,000 OEM spring prints dating back to the 1890's. Plus we can design and make almost any spring anyone would desire.
In fact we have a line of performance springs which out perform even the original SS springs.
While our plant is in Detroit, across the street for the old Tiger Stadium site, it is along way from being in the ghetto.
And Twostick if you had called us you would have found out our customer service is excellent. Mike Eaton

Manufacturer of Leaf Springs, Coil Springs and Attaching Hardware since 1937.

Hello Mike. I agree with you that your company building is far from the Ghetto as some have said. I know because I travel to Detroit at least 4-5 times a year from New York and I know what real Ghetto means and looks like. In fact I past your building just a little over two weeks back. It sought of stuck out like a beacon of hope for that City. What people do not realize is that a shop of any kind in neighbor hoods presumed BAD LANDS will probably do a great job on your orders. I've seen some shops that are in royal surroundings and do lousy work period.
I've had my Motor built in Detroit because I feel that people there will give you some time to work out details with special orders unlike here in New York where every one is in a hurry to screech to a stop at the Red light.
In either case, I am currently ironing out some Gremlins that I suspect is both in my Converter and suspension and will make a trot to your neck of the woods to discuss those performance springs that you mentioned. I'm tired of all this off shore junk making its way into my hard earned creation. In some cases some one's life may depend on it some day.

See you some time soon.
Lee.
