That really sucks, so glad to hear the car and driver are ok, that is the most important thing.

What kind of rpm were you turning?
Shift light comes on at 6600, engine never saw more than 7200 EVER.

250 passes, HOLY CRAP! How many races do you run a year?
Usually 1-2 days a week from April-October. Usually will double enter when its allowed. I made 12 passes alone on Saturday when it let go. All fluid temps were fine, 130* water temp, 150* trans. Pretty common for the hardcore bracket racers out there to make that many runs in a season. I've made 45 passes in 4 days before, more than lots of people make in a year.

Just a suggestion Build a junk yard engine clean it up new bearings rings etc. Keep the majority of engine stock add a bottle of Nitrous and go fast if it goes boom who cares. You would be surprised what a stock chrysler small block can take with N2O. And it won't cost thousands
I wish I could. I make roughly 250 passes in a year. So I need something more reliable than a junk yard motor.
I'm currently pricing out replacements
Have you given any thought to going boosted? My motor is a junkyard special,(although I should have atleast rebuilt it), and hasn't given me any major problems other than the stock 35yr old head gasket pushing out after a year of bad tunes and high boost. If I had it to do over still on my budget I would have waited alittle longer and bought forged pistons and a good cam. I priced out building a 450-500hp smallblock N/A then priced the same hp boosted and it was no contest. Not to mention you get good streetablilty off boost and can run a very conservative gear. I have battled transmission problems the whole time my turbo setup has been on the car but I think once I get the right converter and maybe a trans brake I should be in the 7.20-7.30 range in the 1/8th for under $3000 total investment

Has anybody thought of block deflection? Could this have cause this damage? Matt
