Finally getting around to buying new seat belts for my 67, but can't decide on retractable or not. I want the Chrome lift latch style, but after riding in a few different cars, I'm worried about them retracting too fast and smacking the door panel. My daughter loves to ride in my car, and though she still has a car seat she won't always.
What do you guys prefer? I'm currently using brand X non-retracting and it's not a problem to just lay the belt on the seat. Just thought retractable would be cleaner looking.
Thoughts?

Kinda depends on who rides in the car: I have friends that are pretty gentle with a car, but others who "let fly" on belts, yank on things rather than see if they're latched or caught on something...or my all-time favorite, slamming the doors closed with all the effort they can muster.
Well, that's probably right. The friends I let ride know how to treat a car. However, when I had my Malibu I had coworkers who tried to put the door through the car even though it would latch with a pinky push. My daughter (and the one on the way) is my biggest concern. She's very careful getting in/out and closing doors, but she's bound to slip and let one fly. But then gotta worry about leaving one hanging out a closed door. Haven't had that problem yet though.
I'm really starting to lean more towards non-retract.

That's the one thing I can't stand. And it doesn't matter how many times I say it either. On my New Yorker for example the doors just click closed, the weight of the door itself will latch it. But of course somebody gets in, grabs the pull handle and slams it as hard as they can.

Ok, so here's my plan. Going to get non-retractable units for all seating positions from Ssnake Oyl, black, lift latch, 60". Then in time I'll have them rebuild just my retractable sets. I think they will look okay, since my originals look very similar to their aftermarket units.
