timming gear spins free on crank snout. HELP #1302464

mopar big block 3 bolt timming chain i have baught two brands of timming sets the last one is a cloyes . both of them have the 9 way key billet sprockets. Prolblem is they both spin free on the crank snout without the moom key in. Never seen anything like this.. There is no slight pushing it on the crank is simpley falls to the bottom of the snout. STUMPED even tried it on a old steel crank same response. please help

Sounds like you need to measure the snout on that crank,I would think that some resistance should be there when the gear is installed on the crank with the keyway as a guide for location.Maybe Dan or one of the other machinist/builder will chime in.


HEMI-ITIS has no cure.
My condition is fully BLOWN!!

Ya i know this is going in a 573 hemi. It has takeing me 4 years to get to this point i dont want to foul it up now. I was getting ready to degree the cam and all this crap went down. two steps forward 10 steps back. uh uh

This ain't no Chevrolet, its a Mopar Hemi The crank gear should slide on and off easily

Well this is my first hemi all my outher 440 and 383s went on a little tighter but they were not the 9 way key like this chain is thanks for the response.

I am a Mopar guy, I do some other brands occasionaly, I was shocked on the first Chevorlet I did that the crank gear had to be remove with a gear puller All the early Hemi and all the other Mopar V8 I worked on would slide on and off easily by hand, I thought that was normal

Once the balancer is tightened down, it won't move. It will be sandwiched between the step on the crank and sleeve on the balancer. HTH, Beep
