My brothers Dodge had the carpet installed with spray adhesive. Any thoughts on what to use to get the adhesive off the floor pans? Mineral spirits, brake cleaner and grease & wax remover didn't work.

Thanks

Goo Gone or alcohol? If the adheasive is still flexible. Just guessing here. I have used both on a smaller scale.I think I've even seen wd40 work.

3M does make an adhesive remover but it's expensive and would'nt be cost/work effective for that broad of an area... Just a thought...Did you try lacquer thinner ???

I haven't tried lacquer thinner yet, but will add it to my list of removers to try. Goo-gone didn't work.

DO NOT use laquer thinner Painters alcohol, can't remember the correct name for it or Goo Be Gone, maybe. The proper name of that alcholol is Denatured alcholol Use it liberally and scrub, scrub and scrub some more until it is gone

Acetone sort of works.

Thanks for the tip on the lacquer thinner, I'll try some denatured alcohol in a small area to see if it works.

I just bought some 3m adhesive remover. That stuff works awsome. It took off the excess vinyl top adhesive and didn't hurt the paint.

It's expensive but it will get the job done quickly.

Do not use Acetone on paint that you want to keep looking good, it is harder on paint than laquer thinner is

That p/n is no longer available. I ended up getting it's replacement and on initial testing, works well. We'll see how it works when I get a change to do the whole floor.

Good choice if you want to keep the paint. On mine, I needed to re-paint so I used a heavy cup wire wheel in an angle grinder. Adhesive, sticking bits of carpet, paint and crud all came off.

Most adhesives use hexane as the base solvent. It can be difficult to find so an alternative is lighter fluid (not the same carbon chain as hexane but will work similiar)

NOTE: Before you apply the solvent to the carpet check a small inconspicuous spot that won't be seen to ensure that there is no color fade of the carpet

Funny as I just bought that number last week. It must have been on the shelf for a long time.

It works well on the thin stuff. When you hit a spot of thick adhesive it works very slowly. I have a lot of thick spots...

Thanks everyone on the responses & advice.
