I love max wedge engines, but I admittedly don't know very much about them. I vaguely remember seeing a single-carb 4 barrel max wedge intake manifold for sale a few years back, but I can't remember the application (NASCAR, maybe) or the casting number.
Does this thing actually exist or am I just crazy?

Yes, they do exist.
Actually there were two designs of the Nascar single 4bbl intake manifolds for the NASCAR Max wedge.

Here's a picture of a 1964 Nascar Max Wedge single 4bbl intake manifold.

Mopar Performance sells one. Nice intake and not very expensive. Works great with Max Wedge heads on a 440 block. Part number 337

...good to know I'm not imagining things. I'm getting my Indy-SR heads ported out to MW size soon, and I thought that if I could find one of these things, it might make a nice intake. I realize that there are probably better intakes out there, but having an original MW piece is just kind of special...
2 x 4 MW intakes just seem like a lot of trouble and too much
Thanks for the help.

the indy dual plane can be easily opened to max wedge port window. in fact the intake is what i'd call a modernized version of the old nascar manifold.

I currently have the Indy dual-plane on the motor. It does look really similar...
I was just thinking of maybe going with the MW out of nostalgia.

If you have Indy heads then just use one of the Indy intakes. Or the Edelbrock Super Victor intake.

The Indy heads use a separate valley plate so you don't need a valley plate on the intake manifold like the Max Wedge intakes have.

The Max Wedge intakes are designed for original Max Wedge heads, not the Indy heads.

If you put an original (or reproduction) Max Wedge intake on an engine with Indy heads you end up with dual valley trays like this picture.

You could delete the lower valley tray and just build some rail spacers for each end of the valley. That would be the easy solution to run the 337 intake with Indy heads but I think you'll have to build them yourself.

If you build rail spacers they have to be either a two piece design or else they have to be machined with a dovetail cut in each end. I think it would be a bit of a hassle to get it all sealed up properly.

indy makes rail spacers. their dual plane will work with their valley plate too. the indy dual plane actually has max wedge runners that are necked down at the port window. its a no brainer.
