Hey Gang.
I was curious if anyone has a good part number for a Mopar temperature sending unit (gauge) for our older Mopars. I'm putting together my friend's '71 v-code Challenger R/T and asked him to get an OEM sending unit because the ones I've gotten in the past from the local parts store were never accurate or didn't work properly. I ran into this experience for myself on my former '69 Charger 500, hence wishing to get the OEM product. I got back to me and stated that the only thing a local dealership could come up with was a dual-pin sending unit. I told him our era sending units didn't have any "dual-pin"..

Nope, that's all good.. I can get there and refer it to my friend, he's been ordering stuff from them anyways... Sooo, I'll just have him add this to the mix....

Add an "R" to the YO part number and it's only $12...since it's still an FD (Factory Direct) part number I wonder what the difference is.

I was hoping someone would have mentioned this, I just didn't know...:)

The 70-71 Chrysler parts book lists the temp sender as part# 2426458. I believe that is superceded to #4051140, which I think is what YO is selling as FD51140 (I have found that sometimes with original Chrysler parts YO replaces the first 2 digits with FD). You could check with your local dealer regarding the number supercession/availability. EDIT: Just did a Google search for #4051140 and RT Speciaties shows it changed to #4504202, so you might want to check that number also at your dealer. http://www.rtspecialties.net/proddetail.asp?prod=4051140

I added a 10 ohm resistor to my temp wire as it goes into the harness near the sender [you don't see it as it is only an inch long]. Solder it in and wrap with tape to match.
I used a parts store sender and it read too high [temp]. Tried a couple resistors and the 10 ohm was correct for my guage to be accurate.
Don't forget to verify your actual water temperature when you try different resistors.
