I recently sold one of those boosters, and to package it up easier, i just pulled on the rod, and it came out without much force.
But i really don't know if that was the proper thing to do, or if it was just old age worn out, in some way.

I think you need some type of tool and/or procedure. The one in my booster doesn't want to budge and i don't want to break anything.

Anyone know if there's a trick to pulling it?

Most floor jacks can be used to remove a stubborn pushrod. Find a long bolt to go thru the hole in the pushrod and to span the jack, put the master cyl on the jack rails and feed the rod thru the jack then put the bolt in the rod. jack the jack till it pulls the rod out.

Take care,

The OP is asking about a Bendix Power Brake Booster, NOT a Master Cylinder.
Don't think it's difficult to do, but maybe there is a trick to it.
Found this photo on the internet from The Ram Man, with a photo of all the different style rods, and the ends of them don't look like anything special to me.

Yes, the booster, not the master. I found the picture above of the various booster rods at the Ram Man's store online - it says the rod needs to be changed by a tech or booster rebuilder. Anyone have any detail?

from the service manual drawings i've looked at it appears the booster will need to be taken apart to change the rod. one drawing shows a filter and seals attached to the rod. this isn't as simple as pulling the rod directly out of a master cylinder.

This is a partial drawing of the Bendix Hemi booster. It does look like the booster has to be dissasembled.
