everyone, which is better: cork or rubber? I am installing an A500 OD in my 77 shortbed and i have a new rubber gasket already. Is cork worth buying? thanks! JP in the land of Oz.

I run the newer pan gaskets and use the mopar black ATF/RTV to seal the dip tube and the low/revs pivot pin at the back of the case.

727-2464324ac

904-4295875ac

well worth the $ at the dealer

make sure to NOT over torque the bolts, the gasket does not compress and will strip the bolt holes out if over torqued.

If you knock all the dimples out of the pan rail a cork will do just fine.If you want your pan to leak use the rubber one,if you want it to leak real bad and silicone. If you have a chrome pan grind the chrome of the mating surface before installing.

Shop around. You can find them at a reasonable price, even from the dealer. They are worth it. My 904 never leaked a drop, even with no sealant. I had it off later to adjust the bands, reused it and still no leaks.

Check to see if Hastings makes a filter/gasket for your application. I use Hastings. Love their gaskets. Other brands, the gaskets would seep just a tiny bit. With the Hastings, NOT ONE DROP!!!

I was referring to that waded up rubber gasket they give you in the filter kit from the parts store. The bonded rubber is great, but you still need to knock the dimples out of the pan.

Do like the factory does now. They use their ATF/RTV product without a gasket. About $6 a tube at the dealer parts counter. It solved my leak problems after using the new style pan gasket on a 727 that leaked. Probably the trans surface but the RTV solved it.

x2, I used it on all of the gskaets on the 440 engine and trans.

now I only use the copper rtv on the header gaskets, everything else get the mopar black ATF/RTV

I am gonna try it on the headers next time I have them off to see if it will burn..I know the copper rtv will not burn at the cyl port and thats for sure.

x2

Reused one twice so far on one trans and another reused once so far on another and still not a drop out of either.
